Exclamation Is the RALLIART really underrated...?

Ok my friend had me thinking about this...

Lately ive been seeing checking out all the WHP/TRQ numbers of the ralliart and they are really impressive for a car rated @ 162hp crank. From all the dynos the car is pulling anywhere from 146-157whp and 149-155wtrq. Now with those numbers, it just doesnt add up to 162/162 crank HP/TRQ. You might call it factory freak, but that means, ALOT if not all the RA's are factory freaks... that be kinda wierd. Anyways, as some of you may not know, we put down more WHP and close TRQ numbers to the specV and its rated @ 175hp/180trq.

Is it possible for us to dyno that high with the 162/162 crank hp/trq numbers? Or maybe, just maybe the RA is underrated and possible 170/170? or 175/175? I let my friend drive my car for the first time (my car is still stock) and he told me "dude, no way this car is 162crank". I swore to him it was, and showed him links (stock) dynos. He said "maybe mitsu under-cut it, it dynos close to 150whp, how can you get that high on a 162crank"

I just shook my head in "i have no idea", I just know this car hauls *** and is tooooo much fun to drive! I told him a member clocked a 15flat w/ short shifter and intake and he said "I believe it, im pretty sure if you get an intake an exhaust, I could launch her w/ a high 14's or 15flat"

Yes, I would agree. I think the car is under rated too. I've been thinking about the spec-v dynoing at about the same Hp as us lately also. I guess the only way to know for sure would to be to hook it up to a motor dyno.

Depends on the temperature outside too i think. I know all my friends were amazed when they drove my car, even more so when i tell them its sohc. They cant believe its only 162hp at the crank, once i put the cai on... lol lets just say 2 of them bought 1 too.

Good point....haven't really thought about that. Maybe Mitsu undercut the Hp for the federal emissions thingy? Doesn't a manufacturer's complete line have to conform to a max hp or mpg standard?
I would be interested to see the #'s from a motor dyno.

I don't think it's emission. Insurance . . . still too low of # to make insurance company to charge you an arm and leg. Once you hit beyond, 200 fly HP, it'll start to increase.

CAFE standard for fuel is about 18 MPG and under. There is no max HP standard in america.

My insurance agent quoted me less for a WRX then for a Ralliart.

Now that's an eye-opener! What insurance co. do you use? Do you think he made mistake in the quote?

That was with progresive. Now I use Allide. My friend who is a state farm agent told that it was right and that its probably because 1. its newer and parts are still expensive and 2. more kids have these cars and are crashing them. I'm not convinced of any of it. but that is what I was told. Now I pay about $220 a month for my wife and myself for our 04 ralliart and our 98 VW cabrio. My wife has a really bad driving reccord. Mine is spotless.

Ahhh....thanks for the clarification. Still wouldn't mind to see if someone could dyno this puppy @ the crank!
Is this a job 4 Super-Rock?

I spoke with a salesman at a Mitsudealership in Milwaukee, WI, and he, like myself, drove a phoenix red 04 ralliart...anyway, he too believed that the ralliart is underrated in terms of hp...he couldn't really say why it would be underrated like that...but I truly believe that our cars put out more than the 162 mark. But someone, please dyno!

The Spec-V has larger heavier rims and a limited slip. This all subtracts from the "WHP". However, I do think it is underated.

well,l look at the math: 2.4 L SOHC- a 1.7L sohc honda engine makes around the same as the lancer engine. also look at MIVEC, and you'll see that the Lancer is underrated.

Maybe the WRX's body parts are cheaper, so that offsets the extra cost from the higher HP.
