Dyno'd the RA yesterday

I went to the dyno day at Lujan Motorsports yesterday. They ran from 8am until after 11PM when I left. Did over 30 cars atleast 3 runs each with some minor tunning between runs. I got there at about 4pm or so. It was a good day =) about 78 degrees, 29.96 in-Hg. All runs corrected /w A/F ratios

My car has the RoadRace Piggyback ECU and RoadRace CAI (1st version). I am on stock wheels/tires /w about 50% tread and have solid filled motor mounts (DIY). Only other mods are suspension based and shouldnt make any difference. I am also running full synthetic oil (mobile 1) and 93 octain pump gas.

Each run was done in 4th gear. The wheels topped at 111MPH on each run. Attached is my first run. This was done /w a cold motor. Not too great and didnt print TQ or RPM's. 149WHP. Not too shabby.

Here is my second run. The engine is a bit warmer but still not quite right. 146.07 WHP @ 5400RPM, 151.52 TQ @ 4000 RPM. Maybe 3rd try's a charm?

Third run, the motor is reading a little below center on the dash temp guage (wow, our guages suck =). This is more like it! 158.86 max WHP, 162.86 max TQ! TQ peaked at 4000 RPM and Power peaked at a bit above 5400RPM.

great numbers, those torque # are awesome!

Quick question, does the temp. play the biggest role? coolmivec dynoed 151whp and 156wtrq with I/DP/E on a HOT day in PR.

ya, they were running $40 for the 3 runs. It was a really fun time. got to meet lots of cool people. THe LUjan guys do a great job and would rather take their time and get less runs but do them all well instead of just get 3 runs for everyone and be done /w it. some cars took over an hour, but everyone was happy /w the results.

alot of people were suprised /w my tq (myself included). I took a few guys from srtforum.com for a ride and they got it on video. also taped my dyno run. Ill get the vids and post them later. The interesting thing is that I put out better torque than the RRM dyno and I dont have the axleback. They say exhaust is all about moving the power around. They got a few more HP out of it, but might have done it at the cost of a few lb's of TQ. Its a neglegable difference and the margin of error is enough that I think its safe to conclude that the axle back is mostly a style thing /w these few mods. Here is the RRM dyno:

The first time, the air under the hood was cool and so was the engine. Good for intake charge, bad for 93 octane.

The second time, the air under the hood was hot, but the engine wasn't warmed up yet. Bad for intake charge, bad for 93 octane.

The third time, everything was hot. Not good for the intake charge but... This lets the 93 octane and the ECU do their work. Higher octane fuels need more heat to burn right.

the hood was up and we left at least 5 mins between runs, so it circulated well. just having the engine hold the heat was all it needed. think a run in 5th would have better or worse results?

A fourth run would have done about the same. By then, any other runs would have been subsequently lower due to a heated up intake manafold (bad for power).

Thumbs up

5Th gear would be worse due to OD! You would have been really surprised if you did a 3rd gear run. I Dyno'd mine (still stock) and lost about 2 hp in 4th and gained 2.5 FT/lbs! That was with 87 octane and unknown temp inside their garage, but 19 degrees outside. I wish I had a scanner because I can't figure out how to transfer video from my Digital 8 camcorder. I do think that half tread makes a difference (in a bad way) on your dyno run. I turned 144.67hp and 148.99lbs in 4th. I know the cai and piggyback on your car are making more power than that. I'm not saying you should waste BFG drag radials on a dyno but grip does matter. Have you run any 1/4's yet Blk?

Good #'s that are really better than they are!!
