Can the RA stand it ????

I was invited to race a novice rally. The track is ok but there is some gravel involved.

My question:

Is the RA strong enough (all stock) to handle a discrete rally treatment??? Or is only a street car with a twist of rally?

I don´t want to damage it, but Im also exited to enter since there are no other RA involved.

Guys please help me on this one.

i think tires are to be changed, of course...

but depending how the competition is... if they're modded up with suspension mods, then you stand no chance -_-. lol =X sorry.

Im not concern about winning this thing, I dont know what kind of cars are in the novice race. What I know is that there is also a professional race also that involves mods and all that stuff. Im in just for the fun of it.

What really worries me is that I may damage the RA, that I couldnt stand

So ???

if you dont do anything dumb, you should be fine =) I would, however, stiffen the back end up, just in case (tie bar or strut bar, or both!). Some better all-terrain tires would really help, too. if they have a sub-2.5L division /w 2wd and 4wd classes and turbo and na classes, you ahve a good chance for the 2wd <2.5L NA class. I was thinking about trying it, but dont wana go with bone stock suspension =) not for risk of damage, but just cause i like to win

Is this a race against the clock, or will there be other competitors on the track at the same time? If it is just against the clock, I would say go for it, the only way you will get damage is if you are the cause of the damage. If others will be on the track at the same time, Steer Clear!!! I was involved in a "Friendly" race on a track once and came away with my rear bumper in the back seat. Some people have no respect for other people's property....

we have a good street suspension but not that great for off road. Tires and a rear sway bar are both good ideas. RRM has some break pads that you might want to look at. Try not to high center the car. It sits lower then I would be comfortable with.

Ok, here it goes...

As you all may already know, from March 11th to the 13th, there will be WRC in México. The weekend before that we are having a "novice" rally to try the different stages of the track. I recived an invitation from sponsor Mitsubishi Motors to assist, and I if I choose to, also participate in such event.

The divisions are much like blk-majik says: <2.5L , <3.5L etc... and a pro div with significant mods in motor and drivetrain. No distinction in 2WD - AWD in the first ones, but since there are only a few models in Mexico with AWD (except maybe Audis and VWs) it wont make much difference neither. We will be running 30 kms stages (about 19 miles) and against clock (Im not running with other cars so a guy in a 1978 VW bug hurt my baby RA and "retire" from the race without paying for it).

It exciting for me cos firts of all, I'll be trying the RA in its natural enviroment , it will be the only (hope so) RA in the competition and most important, the next week there'll be panizzi, loeb and other pro WRC pilots running in that same track in their WRC cars, WOW!!!

Well depending on how fast you are and how fast the guy behind you is... You might not be running solo for long! Factor that in and ask your sponsor if he'll help with any damage incurred during the rally!

I think in Mexico we have different tires, but not greater than yours, but I think ours are better for off-road than on track!!

My club in Monterrey is planing on going but I don't think many can go!

My thoughts of RA suspension are that it seems better for a crossover or slalom
than for ralli, because of the height of the car you'll probably have problems with your skirts

But is up to you!! go and tell us if RA could pass!!

Before I would race in it I would go check out the track and maybe see if you could get some test runs in before you race to see if you feel comfortable to race it. If you don't feel like the car can handle it or you don't feel like you can handle it then you shouldn't do it cause I mean who wants a wrecked car?
