Sometimes it's really hard to down shift into first or second gear. Usually when it's cold. Third and above move really nice though.

Ok. So I take my car to Doylestown Mitsu. And they take my car for a drive or whatever and the guy tells me he didnt notice anything. And I said I knew you wouldnt, cause the problem doesnt always happen. So he said that they checked the shifter cables and all that and everything was fine.. He told me he suggests me getting a new clutch cause he will have to take it apart to look at it anyway and he says it would be stupid to not get a new one if we decide to have it looked at. I told him to hold off on it cause I think its bull**** that my car that only has 25,000 miles on it already needs a new clutch. And the warranty only covers 12 months or 12,000 miles. The guy said that the teeth on the clutch might be stripped or something and thats why it only happens every once in awhile. Does anyone know about clutches? Does it sound like im getting ripped off here? Brand new car and needs a clutch already at 25,000 miles. I dont abuse the car or clutch or nothing.

I'd bring it somewhere else. If the clutch was going you'd get slippage and what not. Is the clutch slipping, do you smell it?

Get a second opinion. .02

The clutch doesnt slip, the clutch doesnt smell. I honestly dont think its the clutch. I think its something wrong with the setup. So listen to this crap, on the sheet of paper that the mechanic writes his notes he wrote " what kind of clutch is in the car? " he thinks that its aftermarket..He talked to my mom on the phone and said that it feels like a high performance clutch like something out of the evo. So im thinking, if this clutch was so tight and all, wouldnt that wear it out more? They recommend a new clutch, and if thats the case wouldnt it have todo with my clutch being so tight? I dont know much about clutches, can anyone help me out here? I picked up my car alittle bit ago, and they def loosened the clutch or the feel of it, cause now its alot easier to push in. But anyway, I still feel that its something with the shifter but they said they checked it all out. So I dont know..Help!

...what kind of mechanic can't tell thay the car he's working on does or doesn't have mitsu arts in it? This guy sounds like a ****ing moron, I'd make the trip to another more knowledgable mitsu dealership.

Get a few other places to look at it, not other dealerships. Why would he think it's aftermarket you have any other mods?

Have you had any problems getting it into gear since he adjusted the clutch pedal? If you think your clutch is slipping the easiest way I know of to check your clutch is to (I hate this part, find something soft to cushion the front end) pull up to something solid like a tree or wall, with the car warmed up and hopefully something soft between the bumper and whatever, slowly let the clutch out in 2nd or 3rd gear. DO NOT DO THIS IN 1ST, if the clutch is good and you do it in 1st, you WILL damage you bumper if nothing else. Anyways, if you let the clutch out real slow in 3rd and the engine doesn't die... well you know your clutch is slipping.
Hope you figure somthing out!

mitsurally- is that the mistu off of 611? oh wait, it was in doylestown not downingtown...i think im just sh*t out of luck cause everyone i talk to says that the clutch is wear and tear...so they wont warranty it, and it will just have to come out of pocket..i guess ill go with the road race clutch. Does anyone know how much force our stock clutch has? The road race one says something like 2200lbs of force, where would the stock one lie?

It sounds like nobody knows what is wrong with your car. AN idea is that maybe because of all the focus on getting it into gear that when you upshift a gear, your rpms drop way low and it does engage. You could try a small rev. match as you clutch in and upshift clutch out. All like in 1.3 seconds. As for downshifting, try heel-toe tech. I would NEVER downshift into first gear over like 2 mph, even then I take the extra time to stop as much as possible before (eekk!!) slamming into first. You ralliart guys are crazy!! j/k =] But good luck with your problem! Try not thinking about shifting while you shift; sometimes that makes for a good clean shift!

There's nothing wrong with the way im shifting. I do heel-toe and it works fine. This doesnt always happen. It only happens every once in awhile, and there's nothing that im doing different when it starts to happen. I could see if im like dumping the clutch or riding my car hard and then it starts..But it just happens out of nowhere..And then it will stop. The guy said there might be a weak spot in my clutch and when it hits that spot, thats why its hard to get in gear. That sounds about right, but I dont really know how clutches work. Would a weak spot in my clutch cause that, or is it even possible to get a weak spot in the clutch?

hey "ralliartJP" i know exactley what your talking about. my ralliart dose the exact same thing. you have really throw you wieght in to in a everything. it feels like the cluth hasnt grabbed and when you finally do shift it feels like it has missed and gear and its like hitting a gear. it only happens once in a while itll do fine for awhile pefect shifts clean like a shotgun and then out of now where it starts and then its gone. dont worry your not the only one that has this problay hopefully you can figure out whats wrong so i can fix mine.
