Lower Rpm??
Lower Rpm??
I noticed when I'm driving 60mph my rpm's are really high at 3000. Is it normal and safe to run at that high. And is their anything that i could do to my car that would lower them? It's weird to me becase I am used to a v8 engine.
you could always swap out the final drive gear for a wider one... it's just the nature of the Close ratio transmission.... mines the same way and i don't think a constant 3k rpms could hurt anything...
8000 on the other hand.
8000 on the other hand.
Same with me I don't got that many miles yet.... But i cruise around 80-85 to work everyday and nothing.... You gotta remember your in 5th and that's a long long gear.... your rpms aren't going to go up very fast so your actually not that deep into the power band at that gear

It's normal for a revvy 4 cylinder. Mine, at about 65-70MPH (auto) is just over 3000. Not bad actually and it really helps acceleration, having tight gearing like that. V8s, most of them, don't like the area after 5000RPM and most of their power is low, so makers gear V8s to run low RPMs, the opposite is true for 4 cylinders, you want to get past low RPMs as quickly as possible, thus the fast gears.

Yeah, it's pretty hard to stay at 72mph. That's why I wanted a "warning" LED that turns on when MIVEC's engaged. I usually keep it on cruise control now, and pray that there's some traffic so I won't get "pushed" to 80mph.

p.s. you won't get there in 5th gear anyways because of drag limitations!
Be happy, rev freely!
