RA Stock Wing

Does the stock wing really help in the performance of the car? I mean, does it produces any downforce at all? or is it only to make it look good?

Are there any numbers backing up this?

Thanks...

It does, but no numbers to back it up, simply testimonials of people driving lancers without it then with it. Without it, lancers feel light in the rear and rather unsteady at higher speeds. With it they're more stable and sure-footed at speed. It's more pronounced if you're using an Evo wing.

I thought it was only to distinguish it from regular lancers, it looks prettier than practical.

EVO wing, on the other side, seems more oriented to aerodynamics, that all

thank you

I would also think it should be somewhat effective as the shape is right and it has some height above the deck lid. I wonder though would it be even more so if I used the Vortex Generator. This should allow more airflow over the rear glass and spoiler, albeit less than the evo.
Any thoughts?

From what I know of the vortex generators on the MR, they are tuned specifically for the Evo wing. They may work on the RA, but it will be so slight that it's not worth the money to install it. But like I said all I know is from what I've read about them, don't take my word as the bible.

I'm sure stock RA spoilers help with aerodynamics and all, but how much can it actually help a FWD car? I can understand maybe a little bit more stability at higher speeds, but can it make much of a difference?

No. May put a few extra pounds force on the back end (let's go high, say it puts 50-100 more pounds force) but even this doesn't happen until you are going quite fast.

Only the OZ looks like a regular Lancer without the wing. Our car has a totally different body style. My wife parks her 2003 Lancer next to my Ralliart every night and they don't look similar... except on the inside.

All 04-05 lancers have the same new body style. The average Joe Blow wouldn't be able to tell a wingless ralliart from a base lancer.

Also, regarding the MR's vortex generator - while most effective when used in conjunction with an Evo wing, it still has a positive effect on wingless and cars with low-wings (like ours.) The RS is offered wingless with the Vortex generator, as well. The Evo guys have argued this one to death, but Mitsubishi has done a write-up on the generator that proves its effectiveness without a wing. I think some Evo people have a hard time coming to terms with someone taking their unique part and putting it on a non-Evo. One guy was even on here asking about putting one on his SRT-4

I came across some pictures posted somewhere on this site of an SRT-4 with a vortex generator.
