Question Differences between exhausts?

Hi everyone I just got a Ralliart and am wondering what the difference between all the exhausts are. Like I see catback, axleback, etc... and I don't know what the difference is. Would anyone be able to give me a quick rundown of them, like what their features are. Thanks a lot in advance. I would also like to know everyones thoughts on a CAI, looking at injen or AEM so far, but not sure which one as they look the same hehe.

A noob question, but I understand. I was there once. Like chinto stated...there should be a good thread on that topic already. But you can't go wrong with Injen or AEM. But I've heard people being more pleased with their AEM CAI's than any other. As far as exhausts go...going all out on a catback is the way to go. 4 - 7 extra hp depending on brand, plus a good sound. Axleback will get you that different sound you might be looking for, but with minimal hp gains. But, good luck on your search.

They also have CAI and Axelbacks. I would go check them out before you make any decisions.

basicaly the diff between the exausts is how much of the exaust you actually replace.. for a Natural asprated car ( na ) you can do manifold back basicialy from the front of the engin to the back of the car.

then you can do cat back wich replaces every thing after the catolitic converter

then you could do axel back wich is abasicaly only the muffler

then for a turboed car its basicaly the same but you call it turbo back for a full exaust

there are other peices you can also replace on a na car like exaust manifold

and on a turbo car you could replace the exaust manifold and o2 houseing and the wastegate but if you went thru all that trouble you would probably want a bigger turbo for the hastle n cost.

I would also like to know everyones thoughts on a CAI, looking at injen or AEM so far, but not sure which one as they look the same hehe.

Catback : From the cars Catalytic Converter, new pipe run the whole way to your bumper.
Axle-Back: from the Axle back the piping is replaced with a new muffler and small section of piping.

AEM, RRM, and Injen offer the CAI's/SRI's right now... the difference between the 3 is normally quality because the power gains between the diff. companies are really negligable...

I'd do this order AEM, RRM, Injen.... I've heard not so great things about Injen... Great Customer Service and quality products (downside is the RRM CAI is a One piece) from RRM, and AEM offers a 2-piece so you can add a bypass valve... more for piece of mind... (stops your engine from Hydrolocking)...

Catbacks... VRS is the only one that makes one that you can order online... i don't think Buschur racing finished theirs yet... But you can always get custom piping done at your local exhaust shop. If you're looking to go turbo, 2.5-3.0" in diameter is the size your looking ... Naturally aspirated look for 2.25-2.75"...
Sound: if you're an exhaust note audiophile....there are many good exhausts.. the $30 ebay ones are going to make your car sound like junk... get a Magnaflow #14829 or Megan Spec II muffler.

Axle backs come with the Magnaflow muffler already attached....

If you have any other questions... let us know... also just surf around the site thats seriously the best way to learn.

If you're looking for other quick powergains:

RRM Downpipe
RRM Piggyback
RRM/Unorthodox Flywheels
Evo8Joe is getting a group buy for underdrive pulleys... cheap gains there to..

keep us posted on your tunings!!!

EDIT:

ALSO YOU DO NOT NEED AN AFTERMARKET HEADER.... mitsu designed our header very very well. The gains from going aftermarket would be very minimal vs $$$
IF you had a B16/B18 engine i would say auto first things being Intake/Exhaust/Header... but this is NO HONDA!
If you want it to look nice... send it to www.Jet-Hot.com or take it to your local powdercoaters (choice 2 is better in my opinion) Sorry i'm biast for powdercoating.. it can be done much better than pain and is very beautiful.
