Nology

Anybody know anything about the Nology Hotwire system? How much extra HP and torque could a better ignition make or could it? Also would the wires from the EVO work on a RA or regular lancer? I know it's a different engine but what would the different wires really entail?

I have the Nology Hotwires on my Evo. The HP/Torque gain is minimal, but the throttle response was greatly improved. Not sure if the Evo wires would work on a regular lancer. The kit relocates the coil packs to the rear, check out the pic...you can see the big blue wires going to the metal bracket right behind MITSUBISHI.

RA's use coil on plug, no wires. So, no, no ignition systems for the Evo will work for the RA.

What about MSD ignition systems? They have a ton of different applications. What do you think HP gains would be like? Would this be a hard system to install?

I think your HP gains would be zilch and there's absolutely no reason to upgrade your ignition unless you're doing some massive high-HP build. There's another thread on this.

I just read over that whole second thread and honestly, it's funny how alot of the threads of late start of well then turn into "It's not going to help" fights, although the article was pretty impressive.

"Contrary to the opinions of his corporate detractors, torque and horsepower increased. Not satisfied, the timing was adjusted again (retarded 2°º from the previous optimized setting), and output measured. "We ended up with a gain of 22 lb.-ft. of torque and 18 hp, and make more torque from 0 to 3,000 rpm than the 4-valve version of the same engine,"

Rest of the article http://www.autofieldguide.com/articles/100202.html

If anybody else has more info like that or articles please let me know.

Nology plugs on an EVo without tuning will result in a loss of HP and retardning the timing. I am not sure about the RA platform although this seems like a close enough resemblance to the issue.

waaaay back when i was into hondas i read this dyno test they did, in a nutshell they tested 4 diffrent brands...one of them being nology. no power increase whatsoever!

actually none of them really did anything, most actually lost power. best ones? the stock ones w/ 60k miles on them.... go figure!
