tow hooks

i am just wondering if anyone on here has a tow hook on their car. Is this even needed on our car? I have seen it on a car before but at the time I didnt know what it was for. For people that dont know what I talking about, here is an auction for one.

If you look under your car there is already a tow hook in the front and back. That one is more just for show.

So if I decided to get the one in the auction, doubtful, then it would just replace the stock tow hook in front or back and would just add a little color?

They arent there for us to tow things with...they're there for the tow truck driver to get your broke-*** car up on his truck!

Yea, I think those tow-hooks look like a cup holder for a big gulp.. Don't put it on your car for the same reason they don't put a light under the hood of your engine, JDM cars don't break down.. !!! j/k do what you want.. its just another thing for someone to step on and break off in a parking lot.

I had to use the rear tow hook to pull my car out of a snow filled ditch this past winter.

those are NOT real tow hooks.. one yank from the tow truck and it will break into two pieces

you do get what you pay for

real tow hooks they use on the race cars are as least 3-4 times thicker

I realized that just from looking at them. But it was a blizzard and I was freezing my *** off. It worked fine just for that. I wouldn't do any serious towing with it though. They are small, thin and I could see them breaking pretty easily.

Bumping this to see if anyone has fabbed up "real" tow hooks for their RA. I'm looking to start doing HPDEs this year and I'd like some real hooks on my car in case I end up in the sand. Mainly, I'm looking for ideas on the front hook and some way to do it without cutting the bumper.

The stock "hooks" on the car are a joke, plus they're not visible/easy to get to.

Yeah, the problem is that, on the Evos, they can run them through the bumper vents to their crash bar. We don't have holes there.

Also, Hot Lap racing has tow hook "blanks" for $35 each. They're unpainted and undrilled, but lots cheaper.

A friend is going to come over sometime in the next few days and we're going to dig around my front end and see if we can find a workable spot.

My favorite spot in the front would have to be where the frame rail that the engine roll stoppers are mounted on bolts up to the radiator support. I lift the front of my car from that spot often, it's quite sturdy, and just off center to the left.

There really isn't a good place in the rear. There's no rear diff, nothing but sheet metal. I'd say maybe where the control arms bolt up, but you don't want to pull those out of alignment.
