gauge installation

I am looking at getting an oil pressure and an oil temp gauge and would like to put them in a dual driver side pod on the pillar. I am wonder how difficult these would be to install myself, or how much it would cost to have them installed? Also, what is the difference between mechanical and electrical guages.

Yeah I'm looking into that as well. Getting the A-pillar off isn't hard and running the wires to where the others are going works as well. I know there is some wire on the driver's side pillar (maybe third brake light in back?) and you can use that hole in the firewall. I'm looking into getting an oil pressure, A/F gauge and vacuum pressure or oil temp gauge.

I think if you have the vacuum gauge you can see the engine's vacuum and compression level in the manifold and can alert you of low vacuum levels.

NonEvo are you looking at RRM's CF pillars?

I've been looking at that one. It has three instead of two and comes with the gauges. I figured if they suck, I can always buy different ones. They house 52 mms and probably could handle 60 mm.

the gauges look cool, but I want a pillar that is gonna fit snugly and look like it is suppose to be there. plus I dont know if I want 3 gauges, thats seems excessive for an NA car.

Yeah plus the whole being Ebay thing kind of makes me apprehensive about it. What would be the most useful for NA? I was looking at the Apexi SAFC2 but the only thing I can find when I search is evo owners who can tune it but I wouldn't know how to tune it.

I'm assuming that this could almost be universal for the oil pressure and temp install on the lancers.

unless you plan to run an oil line directly to your gauges (mechanical) you will want to stick with electrical gauges that use senders to convert to an electrical signal in the engine bay

it's a pain in the butt to find a spot to mount your senders.

i did it myself over the course of a few weeks and it wasn't easy getting all the wires run through the engine firewall

Joe, I've been asking myself where the best place is to run those for a while now... where exactly did you run them through? And what did you have to do to make them go through?

Then don't go with RRM's I was very disappointed when my buddy installed his Carbon Fiber gauge pod from Rrm. It's as thin as a sheet of paper, and it doesn't look all that good. It's not a replacement part, it's only a stick on pos, so from outside the car you can actually see where the CF part stops and then see the stock pillar's colour There are plenty of "How to" aritcles out there to work with fiberglass and to make your own gauge pod, look around and you'll be able to make anything your self, and it will most likely look better.

Is the rrm A-piller a direct replacement or just a cover over the original piller?
