Ethanol Q?

I found this and it seemed interesting...
http://www.popsci.com/popsci/automot...069364,00.html

I was wondering what makes Ethanol burning engines different from standard gasoline burning engines. I've heard ethanol is more corrosive. Any comments on the subject would be appreciated. The whole topic is kinda gray to me.

Thanks

sounds like a very cheap replacement for gas.... sence it is made of corn. But you have to pay $35,000 for a vehicle to burn it. Acording to the acticle it will not burn without a high boosted turbo. Sounds like it needs alot of Oxygen to make it burn.
Just one question though.... Would your car exaust smell like popcorn?

Ethanol blend fuels are already quite common. Many stations sell a 90/10 gas/ethanol blend, and the sign announcing it as such is usually really small, so you might not even know you're using it. I think my RA even has some in it right now. However, I try to avoid it, as the article states, because the car just doesn't run as well on it.

Off the top of my head, I know that Marathon (midwest) and Stinker (northwest) stations sell the ethanol blend.

I think it's a viable alternative to gasoline, but you should really only use it in a car designed for it.

I run 10% ethanol blend in my car all the time and have no issues at all. Been running it in vehicles for 5+ years. My dad runs it in his `485 bhp supercharced 97 tbird also and has no problems. I think in Canada over the next few years, all gas stations are being forced to sell only 10% ethanol (or other approved) blended gasoline. Its good for the environment and is a cheap way to raise octane in fuel.

yeah but 10% is a lot different from 85% and I know you can't run e85 in standard engines for prolonged periods of time.
