confused! help!!
Check this out... picked up my gsx with 180k plus on it. All stock and treated like a baby by the original owner.
Now that same motor is boosting 15 psi and soon to be going to 17-18. Yes i'm building a spare motor as i don't think this one will last much longer. But i've got about 195k on it now and it's still pushing strong.
All you need to do is read before you proceed. DSM forums have over 15 years of experience on them with every known combo/question ever asked on them. They also have precise recommended upgrade paths with expected power gains. The lancer forums have only 3-4 years and are still learning more and more everyday.
Sure you could say stay new but the AWD GSX is definately the faster alternative to building a cheap and fast car. The lancer just has the "new" quality.
I love the lancer and support its purpose but if you can own the car outright... build it for cheap... have more power than you know what to do with and the AWD to delivery... i'd say it's an easy decision. But that's just me...

what's up xtian
Get the gsx only if you think you are going to have the money to invest into getting that thing to work like it should. You know battery, plugs, brakes, alternator. The miles on the odometer don't mean much but the actual year of the car is more important. Rust, corossion, maybe a new turbo.
If you feel like playing with that kind of stuff go ahead because it's a great car for speed.

I'm not feeling that much... i'll agree the look is there but those boxer motor's are a pain.
Turboing them is twice as hard since you have to work from both sides with the exhaust... maybe there is a kit or a forum you could check out to see if other's have done it already though.
Good luck and hope it works out for you.

I have to agree with Boe here... the boxer engine is notoriously hard to work with. It's either fast from the get go or a PITA to tune.
The inline 4 is so easy to tune it doesn't even compare. BTW: That's what every team in the WRC uses except for Subaru (for obvious reasons). And next year, all the teams will have to use that engine architecture...
The big advantage of the boxer engine lies somewhere else: realy low center of gravity and compact size.
