Next Gen Ralliart

Guys I just got back from a car show where I was talking to a corporate Mitsu guy, he was telling me about there will be a higher performance ralliart dropping in 2008 on the new platform, and will be a turbo 2.0l making 260ish. (he said in the range of the current Eclpise GT) and it may even be AWD. This engine is supposed to be a product of the mitsu, honda, chrysler global engine alliance. He also said the next EVO (the evo X) will be 300 + HP and based on a new AWD system, and finally be available to canada.

I hope hes not full of sh t because it all sounds awesome to me.

Sorry if this is a repost, I haven't been around much lately but thought I should share.

Cheers,

Brent

Sounds like he's full of it. Why would Mitsu make the Ralliart AWD and turbo? It makes no sense, as they already have the Evo which fills that market well. Before you say "But there are no Evos in Canada!" keep in mind it's a LOT cheaper to make the Evo Canadian legal that it would be to make a new car for the market.

Makes sense to me, move it up to compete with the WRX market. I could totally see the logic behind that strategy.

Makes sense to me, too. I won't believe it until I see it though. It would be a step in the right direction for Mitsu.

Well it would be nice if they make the RA a AWD N/A.

Actually Toyota already named one of their mini SUV, Revo. I don't think Mits will use that.

I kinda like that approach, but the way I see it, Subaru has the 2.5 for the Ralliart Level, and the WRX and STi for the Evo level. And then again the gap between WRX and STi is far greater than that of the Evo vs. Evo MR. It might be cool to fill the gap between current RA and evo. Who knows what they're gonna do, it should be cool either way.

1. The "world" engine is a work of Mitsu, Hyundai (not Honda) and Chrysler.
2. We already know the EVO will be build by Chrysler in the USA (dunno Canada), and BTW, some 06 Lancers are already build in USA (DCX).
3. While not Mitsu news, I heard from a Chrysler account manager that the next SRT-4 using the new platform (shared by the EVO) will be AWD, so it's possible that the Ralliart also becomes a Turbo car to compete with the SRT-4, Cobalt, WRX and all those cars in the 21K-25K with 200+ hp, remember, EVO's cost more than that. And the Turbo was already mentioned on another thread.

There's a lot of rumors going around right now, but nobody seems to know any hard facts. The SRT-4 is no longer going to be made, however, there's rumors of Mitsu/Chrysler sharing the Evo platform, instead. Then the rumor about the Neon going away and being replaced with something based off of the Lancer body.

The one thing for sure is that Mitsu and Chrysler seem to be willing to work together again, and we're going to see a lot of changes (for the better, I hope) in the next 2-4 years.
