Make that 2 Mivec Cars in my family. Now with Pics!

Thats right, My wife just took delivery of a 2006 Titanium Gray Mitsubishi Eclipse.
Yes, its the 4 cylander 2.4L version and automatic but its exactly what she wanted. She is totally in love with the thing. Fortunately, for the times that I have to drive it, there is a manual shift option. You only have 4 gears but you can shift when you want. Its a hell of alot better than just being stuck in an automatic because I can downshift for turns or passing people.

Kinda interesting having two mitsubishi cars with the same engine. When you start it up, it has the exact same sound as my car. Seems a bit quiter and heavier though despite the big exhaust tip. Its hard to describe but the fact that its automatic and heavier defintely takes that edgieness off that the ralliart has. The eclipse handles surprisingly well but I can't throw it around like I do the ralliart. Oh well, its not my car but I've never seen my wife so excited about anything in her life. Save maybe when I bought her the engagement ring but this ranks up there. I won't hear any more complaints about "why do you have the new car and I have the old '92 galant?". She's gonna be showing up to lancer meets now so I think it will be alot more fun. Its dark now, but I'll get some pics up later, hopefully with both cars in it.

Hm, my brother (who im not very fond of, which is why i didnt bring this up earlier) took delivery of a 2006 eclipse GT. The orange looking one. And I have to admit, im not very fond of it. I took it for a test drive and it was like driving a mustang GT. It had the power going straight, but when I tried to make a sharp turn, the thing went outta control. A LOT of understeer. But it definitely has the power, just cant handle the turns as well as I thought it would.

I would anticipate that the GS would be a little better with weight distribution. I'm starting to get the hang of the Manual shifting automatic. Its different with only 4 gears you know and forget about heel toe downshifting, no more instant power exiting turns, but at least I don't feel as handicapped by the automatic transmission. I really wanted to cream this civic tonight who was being an *** but really didn't get a chance. The 2.4L version still has the get up and go, but I'm getting reaquainted with it. I still think It has what it takes to beat civics all day long. It always seems like that, everytime I get a new car, I feel like its slow but it takes time until I can milk it for what its worth. This car is 10x better than my wife's 92 galant. I defintely prefer the Ralliart performance wise. I miss my shifter when I'm in the eclipse. You can really feel the ralliart suspension and weight difference. The ralliart really is the best bang for the buck.

Yeah, there's now a manual shifting automatic for the 06 eclipses as opposed to the plain auto in the ralliarts. Auto now tacks on a 1K above the price of a manual car. Its fantastic for commuting. If I'm lazy or in traffic, i leave it on automatic but if I'm on a back road or feel like driving manual, I have the option. Its still an auto transmission and it still robs power but I can redline it at will now without the car guessing where I want to shift. Shifting isn't instant, there seems to be a second delay.

To borrow someone elses phrase.

Engine room, we need 3rd gear. (1 second later) 3rd gear engaged sir!

ha i had the same thought in my head when i took a ride in a VW Jetta with the autostick trans. Still fun to drive none the less. There are times when i wish i had an auto... like while wearing a suit... really impares your shifting ability.

You know, I was thinking the other day. If I hit the lottery (which I never play) and had tons of money, I would probably turbo the ralliart and turn it into a project beast mainly for racing and destroying other cars. Then I would get another car for my daily commute with an auto transmission with sport shifting. It really is the perfect compromise for the daily commute, especially in heavy traffic. My god, I sit at this one exit ramp daily in bumper to bumper traffic for a minimum of 20 minutes daily. My left leg is made of steel. Would be nice to keep inching up without using my clutch leg.
