F#$% Snow

here in troy we had around 4" of snow today. the roads are packed but driveable if youre not stupid. im coming home from hockey practice and some jackass pulls out in front of me. i swerve to miss him and in doing so i slide and hit a curb. no body damage but i drove home with my steering wheel upside down to counter the f-ed up wheel. when i got home i got out and looked at it and from what i can see it looks like either a tie rod or a drive shaft. i now have one straight wheel and one turned about half way in. my car is down until i take care of the problem. looks like this is coming out of the turbo fund. im so pissed right now i cant even type so ill be back later.

It's not the snow that is the problem, it's the stupid.

hope nothing happened to your steering. That happened to me and my whole rack and pinion steering had to be replaced.

Amen again to the stupid. People need to learn to drive

washington state is the same way if not worse !!!... I left one day with only an inch or two of snow on the ground nothing bad (im from ohio so im used to having lots of snow during the winter months).. the roads just wet where people drove over them it took me 2 hours to get to work... because they were afraid of wet roads stop and go all the way there... *note* it usually on takes me 20 min to get to work.... It freaking rains 9 months out of the year out here 2 of which have a little snow MAYBE...

Sounds like your control arm... I hit a curb when i had my 02 ES... Heard a grinding sound then felt the left front side of the car fall about an inch or so... had no steering control with that wheel..

It could be the control arm, it could be as simple as the tie rod end, or maybe a bad case of the alignment out of whack, but it sounds like a bent steering rack. That would entail a new rack and pinion. Good luck.

What kind of repair cost am I looking at if it is the control arm or the whole steering altogether?

Well, the control arm itself is about $150 from mitsubishiparts.com. Inner tie rod is about $62. Outer tie rod $32. Any or all of these parts will probably need to be replaced.

I'd be really surprised if it was the steering rack, but that's upwards of $1000 just for the parts.

Plus labor to have any of this stuff installed.

Had a similar mishap with the Mirage .... had to change the entire rack. Parts were not that expensive. Cnat remember what I paid and we put it in ourselves. I think the cheapest labour rate was about 250 bucks and it would have been about 3 days. It is a pain in the butt but it is doable.

Similar thing happened to me last month... Almost 700 for the inner and outer tie rods and lower control arm (was ripped) installed by my mechanic and not the Stealership. The only difference was my wheel was pointed out not in. After a 4 wheel alignment I've noticed something else... I think I busted a motor mount too. My drivers side wheel hops like mad and pops loudly on bumps. Anyone know how much the driver's side motor mount runs? On a side note with the snow. Does anyones brake pedal seem to fight them in the snow? I've driven with ABS before but this (EBD) is rediculously violent! It's worst on patchy slush. Anyone else?
