Got a ticket - How do you remove window tint?

Got a fix-it ticket to remove the tint from my front windows. How hard is it to do, is it cheaper to do it myself, and what are some tricks to make it easier?

Stupid cop was waiting by the onramp just itching to go after someone. I got on the onramp, spotted him, lowered my windows, and by the time they were down he was already on my ***.

Usually the places that do the installs will remove it for free. Might want to attempt that first.

Same thing happened go me a few months after getting my tint done. You should have floored it and have him chase you hoping he would wreck. J/k. It is not too hard. Start pulling the corners , use a razor to get things going if need be. There is a water based soluble that helps with the adhesiveness of the tint. Not sure how long you had the tint for.

What percent was your tint?

Also if it were me I wouldn't do it myself. I'll end up doing something stupid :P

it's very easy to do. pull the film off, use lots of windex and a razor blade for the glue. Shouldn't take any more than 15 minutes per window.

its the ammonia in the windex that unseals it. Spray it down with ammonia and let it sit in the sun. It should peel right off.

My firiend used a scraper to get a hold of the edge then just pulled it off, used "goo gone"(an adhesive remover) and papertowel to get the adhezive off. Took him 1/2hr or so to do the front windows when he got the same kind of ticket for his old beemer that had 5% all-around when he bought it.

Pay to get it removed, I spent 3 hours removing the tint from one of my windows and I used all the tricks (heat, windex, goo gone, soap).

I just got mine tinted yesterday, 50% all around. Here in California, they are really picky about it so I went light. Some people just get stupid and tint 35% or darker! Your just asking for it. Secondly, I went to my Dermotologist and got a medical letter stating I can have tint on my front windows due to my super white, white boy skin. I just am not rubbing it in the cops face by making it too dark.....Anyway, lesson learned, not the cops fault you did something illegal. haha. Most cops don't sweat it, where I am anyway, but some people just ask for it. Sorry to hear.........Good Luck

You could do what I did...

Take some pictures of the windows on your car = "before".
Take some pictures of the windows on someone else's car with no tint = "after".

Take the photos to the court house and show them the fix it ticket and the photos.

Good luck.

I agree with Spoolin...they don't have the time to go outside and look at your car. My brother did this with his camaro a few years back and got away with it.

Well that would probably work, but in doing so that then opens you up to the whole new legality issue of "perjury" , and then if you get caught again they'll probably tack-on a fine too

Personally I'd just take it off.

But again, like the guy above, I went with 50% on the front, that way it's not really noticable, but is nice when driving because it really cuts down on sun glare from the sides.

I have had 20% blue tint on my RA for almost a year now, must have got 5 fix it tickets, never did I take it in or anything, even though it said tot ake it in within this many days blah blah. Never did and every time a cop pulls me over he just hands me a new one if he sees them. Works for me, they obviously don't file the fix-it tickets here in BC.
