Vinyl Crazy?

I am so tired of mitsubishi's cheap black paint. While pondering how to fix it, I had this crazy idea cross my mind. Cover the car with black vinyl. It seems kinda out wack to me, yet it just might work. Anyone tried this? Any thoughts, ideas or comments?

i have a feeling that would start to look like crap really fast... Highway driving.. or any driving for that matter would fill it with rock chips and scratches, even worse than the paint. also, covering the entire car would be next to impossible to do without having bubbles or lines. Trash the idea before you waste money

If I got rock chips n such I could just replace that sheet.

What's gel-coating? I've never heard of that.

You could sign up for one of those advertising places that wrap your car in printed vinyl, and pay you per mile you drive, tracked by GPS. You'd have your vinyl-covered car, and get paid to drive around.

The downside is, they'd probably wrap your car in something totally stupid.

I just went through a Vehicle wrap class with 3M. You wouldn't wrap the car with actual black vinyl, it would be near impossible. You'd have to print black on the proper white material and wrap the whole car. Honestly, if you just want black, go get a good paint job, it will save you money and look better to boot. If you have your car wrapped, you should put something cool on it. Trust me on this one.

And wrapped with the right stuff, it wont bubble or wrinkle, its a flexible material with air channels underneath.
