This thread is exactly why you don't post the stupid crap you do on-line. And I won't even pretend like I never do stupid things

^^^ Its the internet, people have their opinions so i guess it was a bad idea, yet i mean the main point of this post was the see if anyone else had an encounter like this and to stay ON topic:

Yes i've had a one once, took a turn that i normally take at 50, but a truck that was doing construction at a house nearby dumped a load of sand on the ground and i lost control. Speed limit was 40mph, i was doing 50; i ****ed up, o well. Damage was minimal, i never got it repaired cause it was cosmetic. Some idiot in a truck backed into my driverside and put my door 1/2 a foot in 4 weeks later and felt bad and paid to repair the rest of the car (driverside was the only side scratched up). All in all, i don't necesarily know the limits of my car, mainly my tires on sand, but i have been able to get out to a parking/runway to test the limits of the car so its all good i guess. I speed, and i'm an aggresive driver (boston driver haha.. go figure), but i've slowed down alot, my old car was a taurus SHO so i flew around in that thing... Drive safe, and its good that everything turned out ok.

Sorry about the essay...

+1

As for "taking turns", that's what i love most about this car, it handles likes it on rails, when compared to the older, misunderstood car that i drive. For instance, there's a corner while headed to my house, that from time to time I take with a little speed, inching it throttle up just a smidge to find that critical point, so far, 70km/h and she holds like glue... but again, that's not everytime i take that corner, I only do that when there's no traffic to interfere with, and i'm in the mood to have some fun, and the wife's not in the car

Now the other car can handle aboe the same speed, but that's about it's limit, and the body is rolling like the high seas...time to replace the 18 year old shocks and springs and add some sway bars I think...

To get slightly back on topic, I had a spin out last winter but it really wasn't like this. I'm on my way to work one night. I leave my house and I notice it's flurrying slightly and there is a very thin dusting on the street. Nothing to get up in arms about. Well I get on the highway going to work. Mind you I only live 12 miles from my job. Well about 3 miles into my highway driving the snow starts to come down a little harder and the flakes are getting bigger. Well between then and about 2 miles later I go from normal snow to an all out blizzard. By this time I've gotten my speed down to about 30 mph, windshield wipers going, radio turned off so I can concentrate totally on the road, and both hands firmly gripping the steering wheel. Just then there is a slight jerk on the wheel, the front end of the car flies to the right of the road (luckily, because if it had gone to the left I would smashed into the concrete barrier). I kick up a huge wall of snow to my left as I'm spinning. And in a matter of a second or 2 I'm sitting in a ditch with snow up past the bottom of my door staring the opposite way as cars come towards me.

Talk about being scared sh!tless. Like I said, thank god I didn't go off to the left or my car would have been toast and I'm even more thankful that there were no cars around me at the time. If I had gotten on the highy about 20 seconds later than I did I would have been surrounded by at least 5 or 6 cars when that happened.

Reminds me of what happened to Otter at the Winged Warrior event earlier this month. The last section of the autox course was a FAST slalom on a runway......and well, Otter kinda lost it. Gotta stomp the gas and correct when a FWD get "loose".
Enjoy the pics!

I swear, If I hear one more Grandma here say "take it to the track"...

Spirited driving is what the Ralliart is all about. Pushing your car a bit when nobody is around is what enthusiasts do. The OP pushed his car a bit too hard and learned his lesson, he screwed up and was lucky.

He's asking us to post our close calls, not to judge him. I think we've all had close calls on the road in real life so don't get all high and mighty and say you've never lost control of the car, or had an accident or swerved to avoid a deer, or slipped on some wet leaves or anything else that can happen in a normal day's driving.

One of my most harrowing moments in the Ralliart was on my wedding day. I had to pick up my best man and was running late for the wedding. Fellas, if there was ever a day to speed, this was it. I drove through some narrow back roads, across a bridge and then had a sharper than 90 degree left hand turn. I was going like 20-25 mph when I entered the turn, realized I was going to fast for a turn that sharp, I pulled up the ebrake, reved the engine and dropped the clutch in second. The result was a controlled slide that I couldn't have done better if I was a hollywood stuntman. Scared the hell out of me though and I don't think I'd have the ***** to attempt it again.

I think why everyone has gone off topic is because when he did this, ppl assumed he was speeding... so therefore, the fact comes to mind.

Just be cautious.. of waht you are doing

Damn, I knew as soon as I saw the thread title, somebody would be in here pointing out my autocross mistake.

Here's the lesson kids - when you take a slalom too fast, on tires that aren't fully broken in, and overcorrect oversteer, you end up pulling grass from your underbody.

I was trying to race that Ranger in the tent, but he wouldn't bite.
