Question Your opinion please... '04 or new '05? or '06?

Somethings have changed and I have a chance of getting an '04 Silver Ralliart with sun and sound and only 6K miles 5 speed stick owned by the general sales manager of a well respected Mitsubishi dealer.

Price? $14,500 Might be able to knock him down a couple of hundred. He says he has a cold air intake, and upgraded speakers in the Infinity system. All reciepts and serviced every 2K miles for oil.. It would be a private sale. Still has approx 3 years and 54K miles on bumper to bumper warranty... Might be 2 years depending on when he bought it..

OR

the brand new '05 Lightning Yellow with Sun and sound 5 speed manual only 40 miles on it. Out the door price including all taxes and fees is 19K.. Full warranty.

OR..

A brand new '06 White.. 5 speed stick. No Sun NO fun.. errr I mean sound package

19K out the door

Your opinion and most importantly why?

THANKS!!

The price on the yellow one is a ripoff. You should be getting the car for about 2grand below invoice at least. The puts you down to like mid-17s I think. Those guys are playing games with you. I got my 05 RA brand new, no ss package for $16,200 in July of 2005.

No offense to anyone, but don't like yellow. it should be cheaper anyway.
And not a fan of the 06s. Plus the SS package is so worth it.

Buy the 04, save your $5000, and mod her up how you would like!

I've seen a local dealer advertise the 06 for 13999 plus fees. Keep searching, go to the local book store and buy the big newspapers from across the country and compare the ads.

just to let you know, the price the ralliart is worth drops 10K per year. my yellow with SS sticker was 21 and one year later is worth 10. go with the used one. or ull be in a money pit and regret it.

The price that your talking for the car is a fair price for a private sale. The low milage of the car and the reduction of cost because it is actually used and is a private sale is definitely the reason why the deal looks so sweet.

Only you can decide if the car is worth it or not. I would recommend gathering as much information about the cars condition and taking those things into consideration.

maybe where you live, but here, dealerships want $27500 for a brand new one, and then sell 1 yr old used ones for 24-25, '04 ra's they still want 20 for, but the "book value" is another story, an 05 is booked at about 18,500, but you can get around 20-22 000 on a trade if you stick to it.

Well, I did the numbers and the Silver one is by far the better choice. Several factors played into this but the overwhelming reason was simply a financial one.

if I went with the yellow one, I would spend 19K + the negative to get rid of my car that I presently have ( $2800.00)

If I go with the silver one at ( assuming I can get him down to $14K) I can get my bank to finance 100% of the bluebook retail + tax and license) for approx total of $14,800

Now follow closely...

The RETAIL bluebook on this car is 16,500. + tax and license which figure 10% is another 1650.00 for a grand total of 18,100 that I can technically get from the bank.

I will take out a loan for 17000.00 which will pay for the car and the negative I had to pay for getting out of my other car.

Now I have a loan for 17K ( instead of 19,500 for the yellow one) and I have my 2800 back that I paid for the negative and I still have a loan that is less than the yellow one.

Yellow one = $19,500 loan and a loss of $2800.00
Silver one = 17000.00 loan, no loss of $2800.00

Or I can just do a loan for $14K and have a way lower payment and not get back my 2800.

The second big reason was the color. As much as I like Yellow, I am also getting a Ford Ranger truck soon that I custom ordered. Its torch red and its really really red.

The thought of red and yellow together really makes me cringe.

Silver and red is a nice combo..

So there it is..

Thanks to all that helped.. I know this was short but it had to be done quickly. The good advice about that dealer ripping me off really sinks in when its other people that are not emotionally attached to the deal that are able to point out things you wouldn't notice.

pics will be forthcoming soon!

might be more expensive... but I've never seen one in Vancouver for more than $24K before tax CAD for an 06 Model.
