Help! Somebody Diagnosis My Car Please!!!
yep I would have to say MAF as well as that is probably the most common cause for the CEL... have you taken off the filter to check inside the actual intake pipe were the MAF wire is because if you dropped back a gear and the car lept forward due to high revs it may of dislodged something??? also check that all hoses are clamped up tight and no vaccuum leaks and just as for a novelty purpose disconnect the battery leave for 10 minutes and then reconnect... all of the drive belts are ok nothing snapped or missing there? Have you checked the O2 sensors on the exhaust including the cat one?
But the bad fuel economy, no power and now the CEL really does point to MAF

Miles on the car? Could have jumped time if the belt is old and stretched... If it jumps too much it will damage the engine... Just one tooth can let it still run, but horribly with no damage... Just a thought no one else mentioned... Our timing belts are due at 60K if I remember right....
paperwork says 60k in all but a few states where is says 100k. I never did get a solid answer on that from mitsu, but I did get them to sign off on a free timing belt change for me.
I was thinking fuel pump when I first read OP, but due to your recent threads on gas mileage I think I'm gonna go with maf on this one too. The only other thing I can think of something blocking your exhaust flow, which usually happens with a loss of power over a period of time, and then the car becomes undrivable all of a sudden. Of course this can still explain your gas problem too. Something in the cat let go, or someone put something in your muffler(unlikely)

Thanks for all the help so far, I really appreciate it.
I just got off the phone with mitsubishi, they service manager said it's the mass air flow sensor. Which after reading the replies, I knew... I told him yeah... I agree. Yesterday they also clean the throttle body and the car started up and ran fine, but they still want look deeper into the car (I really don't know why). So now, what should I do? I kinda want my car back before they do anything else, maybe I can examine it on my own.

Let them look at it as it is now a common fault with the air flow sensors as they are a hit and miss item due to the amount of manufacture faults that are appearing - even down here in Australia... I highly doubt that there is anything on your car that would cause a non warranty item seeing as to the type of part that may need to be replaced.
I believe that a genuine air flow sensor costs something like $700

im sorry to read what happened , but i have a question. See lately every time i cold start my car it does the exact same thing arithmetic just described , but only when its cold started. Sometimes it dies on me and i have to try and turn it on again, so im wondering if this could be related?
Cold start problem is something else... I doubt it would be MAF... if it was MAF it would die on you when warm as well - check the battery, alternator, and maybe coil packs/plugs

Why would you say that? have you opened up the original MAF and played around with the wiring of it... this would be the only reason for them to refuse warranty but you have already said that they have cleaned it up and it is working so there is nothing to worry about... and they just cleaned the signal wire inside which can get dirty from there stock panel filters...
did I tell you all about the moth I found wrapped around my air flow wire after Mitsubishi serviced my car - this happened when they cleaned the filter and did not check that the intake pipe was clean before putting it all back together...

You can get them used for $45-$100. http://www.car-part.com
^^^ Thank you Mysz, you are saving my ralliart and wallet in this thread. I should have tow my car to you!
I have an intake though, so they might blame it on my intake,
. Oh yeah, Ill call yesterday to check on the status of the car and the service manager said it's not running now,
. They just got it up to run that one time.

Sorry I forget you guys probably have a few of these cars laying around in wreckers seeing as you have had the car a few more years than us - I was speaking to a Mitsu guy here and he was quoting me the $700 for the part - which is a stupid price (not that I need the part just out of curiosity)
also you would not be wanting Mitsubishi to fix it by having to replace with one of there genuine brand new parts when a wrecker will have it for a fraction of the price

If you ever need one, mitsubishiparts.com has them brand new for US$135. Part # is MR985187.
AUD$150 or so plus shipping would beat the pants off of $700.
Ok, they check my car... turns out is what the MAF (which I figure). The part cost $185. With installation and everything, it's gonna come out to $380 dollars and it is not covered under my warranty. He can order the part now and have it here by thursday. Said the job takes 1hour and 30mins to install. I didn't ask what was the direct cause of it, but does anybody have a clue? Im sure he is gonna say my intake cause it, but can it? Also, there is no way the job takes an hour and a half, I can put it on in 2mins top, just 2 screws and some clamps, done deal.

What to do, what to do?
