thinking to buy a Lancer (the European version)

Hi guys,

For more than a month I'm thinking seriosly to buy a brand new Lancer - I guess this can be called the European RalliArt - the 2.0L 4g63 engine (no bigger engine avalaible for our market here).

The price/package for the full verison is very attractive:

Now the only thing that concern me is the this engine and its performances 2.L with 135 hp 176 Nm torque and only 9.6 s 0-60 mph. Isn't to less ?

I'm looking at other engines from other car brands:
    - for instant new Honda Accord has 155hp from thei 4 cyl 2.0L engine
    - or VW claims to have 150 hp from thei 4 cyl 2.0 FSI engine ...

What do you think about this Lancer engine regarding the power/torque and its 0-60 mph ?
Can this performances be improved easly (for instant if I want let's say an extra 15 hp, ... at low costs and still keep a decent the fuel consume ) - for instant I saw a CAI filter on X3Racing claiming to gain 10-15 hp - can that be real ?
    http://www.x3racing.com/products/pro...IN-AFL-R-BK-BL

I'm attaching the torque/power vs rpm graphic for this engine.

What do you guys think ?

    Cheers,
    Dinu

It's hard for us to say because the only 4G63 engine in the states right now is the turbo'd version in the Evo.

so technically the evo turbo kit should fit right? I'm sure the program for a turbo is hidden somewhere in the ecu

The thing is, the 4G63 was developed to be an awesome turbo engine, which means it makes a pretty anemic N/A motor. There is no real N/A development I know of. Unless you plan on turboing the car, I doubt you'll be satisfied with it if you just do basic bolt ons.

like a lot of car engines there is always room for improvement firstly are you looking at keeping it N/A or looking for some turbo action... this will be easy for others to help you out if other information is given like what sort of compression does the engine have 9:5.1 is great for turboing with mild psi but is still good enough to improve on with some simple bolt on mods like headers and intake for a start this should give you close to the extra 15hp and increase in torque

maybe give these guys a call as david will know more about the 4G63 in N.A form as he sends gear out to all over the globe so I can't see that this will be any different

Thank you for you replys guys.
Because the car will be brand new and I do not want to void the warranty - I'll have to do some engine mods accordingly.
Yes I'll plan to torbo it after the warrany expires, but first I want to see what hp can be gain using simple mods like CAI or others.

The only other 4G63 engines here in the states besides the Evo are in the first and 2nd gen eclipses/talons. They were not all turbo'd.....but they are older versions of the 4G63 (1990's).

Does the Ralliart share the same chassis with Evo VIII or IX ?

    No.
Shares the same chassis with the ES and the OZ Rally edition. CS7A is the chassis code for the Ralliart. The ES and OZ chassis code is CS6A, but can share aftermarket suspension pieces (i.e. Tein Coilovers).

I believe the Evo VIII and IX is chassis code CT9A.

I chose to swap in a 2.4 4G69 rather than go for our 2006 Ralliart with the 4G63. The factory performance on that car is shockingly bad. I had a drive of it and it wasnt much better than the 1.6 I had.

However, I'm sure there are ways to make the Euro ralliart much better than the US one. Another little advantage is you'll get a momo wheel as standard!

Someone in the UK told me it was quite easy to do a 4g63 NA to evo conversion. So you may have to deal with unfortunate power for a few years but having stock evo parts bolt up would make your conversion very easy and beneficial in the long run.

I wouldn't take my word for it though. ask around

So I guess RRM builds performance engine parts (like CAI and other stuffs) only for US engines (SOHC 2.0 and 2.4L) ?
