custom cai?

well my buddy shot me in the direction of this corolla forum that he just found. being that he wants a new XRS, i figured i would check it out and see what im up against.

make a long story short, was searching around their forums and found this
http://www.9thgencorolla.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=40801

is there a way i could make one like that for the RA? does anyone have an exploited view of the plastic shields and bumper supports and stuff on an 06 RA?

thanks in advance

This is for an '04, yours should be similar.

Bumper cover removal

Bumper cover removed

The plastic shields are pretty simple. You just have to pop the center of the fastener out a little, then the whole fastener pulls out of its hole.

on my 04 id think our radiator is in the way of doing that unless you go down to the opening between the fog lights which would still be a squeeze and not very rain friendly.

You'd still need to drive it into a lake or deep puddle (completely submerge the filter end of the pipe) for it to be a problem. Rain alone won't be a problem.

it doesnt look posible.. also that CAI has alot of bends in it, which would cause the air to be more turbulent, It would most likely not be as benificial as the RRM, Injen, or AEM CAI's, or even a SRI. In pysics we learned about moving water and air through piping, as well as doing several experiments with it. The general concensus was MORE BENDS = LESS EFFICIANT, due to the constant changing shape. Also, the tubing appears to be somewhat long. More surface area inside of the pipe would also cause the air to be more turbulent also lowering efficiancy. If you would still like to continue with that plan, I could possibly research the car a little bit for you and make a CAD drawing for you. From the looks of our car, it would mostly involve cutting the inside of the bumper and removing the driver side fog light to accomodate the pipe in such a fashion. (not to mention there would most likely be nearly a 90 degree corner in there... which would drastically reduce air flow.

If you're curious as to whether one on the market offers a CAI that would potentially keep as cool as this one, any of the others would, in addition to that I think they offer more protection from dirt than what you're looking at here. I forget where, but I do recall seeing on these forums someone had run plumbing to the intake through the fender for more direct air on the SRI. I suppose it's completely possible to plumb a short run with perhaps a screen or something into the CAI...?

thanks for the help guys.

CF-Ninja, if you have some free time on your hands go ahead and do up a CAD drawing of it.

the reason he put a CAI on a corolla is because its an XRS and with pulley and catback will keep right with our RA's. do not underestimate them on the freeway, they can pull to 138 just like we can.

Maybe so, my experience was getting up to 60-70 mph in the first place felt very much like a corolla to me though.

Stock for stock a corrolla will eat an RA in the higher gears (Xrs also have a 6th gear). Those cars are deceivingly fast , at least here in PR they are.

from a 40mph roll an XRS does not stand a chance against us. up after 100 they start to catch up, but that becomes a driver's race, who has more cajones...

actually take a look around www.9thgencorolla.com there are some damn nice looking rollas out there.

Ya, thats what a sixth gear will do for you. I rarely get a chance to go faster than 100mph. my car spends nearly all its time well below 100mph. If the corolla has to get moving that fast for it to be a race it just doesnt seem that impressive to me. Again, I drove one and was compltely unimpressed. Handling was another area where i felt the XRS just felt like a bus. Or rather, exactly like the corolla S. Don't get me wrong they are nice cars but most people I know don't spend a lot of time over 100mph. even when driving aggressively.
