custom cai?

Handling was another area where i felt the XRS just felt like a bus. Or rather, exactly like the corolla S. Don't get me wrong they are nice cars but most people I know don't spend a lot of time over 100mph. even when driving aggressively.
Ya, and dont get me wrong I didnt mean at all for this to turn into an XRS bashing thread. Props to your buddy for making his car faster and it's always nice to have a buddy to drive with.
well right now my buddy is driving a 98 corolla LE. one of about 500 made with a 5speed and leather interior.
he hydro-locked his motor at 130k and it was replaced with the same 1zzfe motor but that motor was made in japan. so i guess you could call it a JDM engine swap?
his mod list:
1zzfe JDM engine
rebuilt tranny
centerforce dual friction clutch
custom intake
custom cat-back exhaust
eibach pro-kit springs
tokiko struts
tinted taillights
and with that he keeps up with my RA... yes i know how to drive but his rolla is very very quick for a corolla.
anyways, back onto the topic, who else wants to chime in with an opinion on an intake like that for a RA

I figure that if you're going to make a CAI like that, you might as well use a filter designed to be mounted there. One of those rectangle filters meant to be mounted in front of the radiator. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
im sorry, but the whole PVC thing is UGLY. it might be a DIY but i wont want it to look like i slapped it together in 5 minutes.
my buddy just got a tube bender from his uncle today! im stoked, im hopeing that it will work on the intake tube, so i only need to make 2 different tubes. i was also thinking, how would i be able to mount the panel type filter or (interfooler)

you asked for ideas, just trying to help. Paint the pvc and you can't tell it's there. And if you think it takes five minutes to do that then you haven't even taken your bumper off, because there's fives minutes right there. And what intake tube comes 3"ID anyway? The larger the diameter the less air restriction. I have one 45 degree bend in my DIY intake, and then the 90 degree in the stock. You want to make yours and put them side by side on the dyno? I know where my money is going.
If all you want is good looks for your car I have a can of chrome spray paint for the pvc that I will let you have. bling bling
