First Autocross

Just did my first autocross this weekend put on by YKW in Brampton. It was a blast! I actually did ok - somewhere in the middle of the pack. The fastest time I saw was from an STI, although the best driver was an older guy in a late 80's oldsmobile - it was funny to watch. The Ralliart performed very well despite my amateur driving. The glaring weakness was, as everyone knows, the TIRES. What a difference grippy tires would have made. Driving like that really exposes the weaknesses-tires and strengths - handling and torque (thanks to RRM Piggyback and pulley) of the car. I recommend this to anyone who has not tried it yet. It's a good way to see what your car can do safely and legally.

Yeah, they're a blast, and the Ralliarts can do really well in it. It really is all about the driver, though. A stock Ralliart with a good driver is a very hard car to contend with.

In the SCCA stock class, you have Mini's to look out for. But still a good stock platform to start with.
I have shifted my tuning focus from power to handling for my class. I outpower most everything in my class, but can't contend with a car that has a completely upgraded suspension and a decent driver.

Glad to see another Ralliart getting into the autox arena. This is my first full year, and I have learned a TON about the car, driving technique and tuning. I agree that if you are truly a "car person", you should try this at least once. I always seem to be real comfortable at these events, as the people are usually really nice and we are all gear heads.

Here is the site for your region. Best thing to do is contact the Solo director for your area with any questions you have. Good luck bro!

Same here. Damn UD pulley put me in STS, with everyone else having suspension work done as well as lots of engine stuff to be put in STS is difficult. I managed to come in 1st in class the first time I used my RA in STS and 7th in class the second time. There were fewer drivers the first time, it was f\/cking freezing that day so it was kind of a gimme. I still placed half way up the pack (indexed times) and in the top 1/3 with actual times with my 7th in class finish. damn women drivers get super indexes.

Hey Chengster - How'd you do? I guess you got through that "S" curve on you third run. I wish I could have stayed, I just didn't plan for that much time. Next one for sure.

Cheers,
I'm a bit out of the loop as that was my first auto X, but I would like to do another before the end of the season. I think Chengster might have a better idea.

Looking at your mods....your high flow cat would put you in the street mod class. Just make sure you keep quiet about that if you still want to run STS.

But you are right.....I dread seeing little 1989 Civic Si's with full suspension and engine work in STS. Put a decent driver in them and they smoke me pretty good....but I have plans to catch up to them next season! muwhahahaha!

i did much better than i expected, first time at an autocross, managed a 27th/55 to make it into elimination, johnny made the last cut 32/55. I believe you were 29 or 30th on the list.
johnny (the yellow ralliart) finally made it in his 3rd attempt on the S turn after some pep talk

next autocross? there is one for HADA on sunday, im going to have to get details, but i will try and be there

I've been spending money on the car and haven't had a chance to do an autocross lately so I haven't reclassified the car yet, high flow cat puts me in street mod huh? That sucks. I guess I will have to get used to loosing until I get coilovers.
