1/8th mile drag times....

Im going to the 1/8 mile Dragway this weekend in Wilkesboro NC... My car is bone stock minus a set of 215/50/16 Kuhmo Ecsta 712 tires... I know its not a drag car, but Im going for fun and to see what this car will turn... Would some 110 Octane hurt the car just to run at the track? I know its probably not worth it, but id give it a shot if no one thinks it can damage the car...

If I enjoy it enough, i'll go every time I add a modification to the car to see if the times change... First thing I have coming is the Pulley and some Tien springs... After that, I will most likely add suspension stuff as I think the car has plenty of power for now...

If it's leaded race fuel, it'll do more harm than good. Leaded fuel will kill your O2 sensors.

If it's unleaded it won't hurt anything, but you won't see any gain from it, either.

Drag racing a stock or mildly modified Ralliart is quite boring. Find some local autocrosses and try that out

Yeah, let's face it, our cars aren't that fast bone stock. Anybody who shows up to a drag prob have something faster than us.

dont expect any better than a 10.5 in the 1/8th i pulled a 10.9 at 73mph and that was with a lot of tire spin in 1st.

i was kinda disappointed but i will be soon changing that

tire pressure is a good mod drop the fronts down to 23psi and that will give slightly more traction and remove any weight from the car spare tire is good place to start

thought i'd post some results...

Well, I ran the car as follows...
3/4 tank of gas, 32 PSI front, 26 PSI Rear, Tires as previously listed... Otherwise, the car is bone stock.. Car is not a S&S package, so its a little lighter... Had terrible wheel hop my first run but still my best times... Came off Idle, first gear...

1st Race
Reaction +.9430
60 ft 2.3741
330 ft 6.7150
1/8 ET 10.2791
1/8 MPH 69.11

First race was against a 2000 Civic Si with headers, intake and various other mods... He never broke out of the High 10's... I was actually surprised how fast my car ran and was actually very competitive... It did out run an early 90's Celica GT, BMW 735i, 2-3 Civic EX coupes, a Mustang with the 6 cyl engine, a Lexus IS300 on 20's, and an Integra or 2... There were only 3 cars faster than me in the import/domestics class... SRT-4 Neon with Nitrous was running 9.9 pretty consistent, an Integra GSR with the works was in the mid 9's and then a Tacoma with the TRD Supercharger and some other goodies ran a 9.3 pretty consistenly... Some track time and work the tire pressures I could probably break 9 as you see my reaction times were horrible... So i didn't do too bad for an NA car...

I got 4 runs in altogether... Mostly just played around trying to get the lights timed right... Ran a consistent 10.6-10.7 after that... I tried 4K RPM and drop the clutch but that just spun the front tires like mad through first gear. After that I just started off Idle watching the lights more than my driving...

I'll probably go back on thursday nights for test and tune... If RRM's CAI really is good for a full second to 60, that and a pulley could get me in the lower 9's...

Solid motor mounts will help with the wheel hop (and the 1-2 shift), and your should air down your front tires for traction, and air up your rears for less rolling resistance.

yeah, im gonna tinker around a bit thursday night I think... I figure 50 PSI rear, about 25 or so front... Just to see what it can do... I'll try to not have a full tank of gas, but I can't promise that... I don't drive more than a tank a month usually...

To give you an idea, my one and only time I have been to a drag track (quarter mile):
60 ft: 2.306
330 ft: 6.617
1/8: 10.093
1/8 MPH: 71.350
1000 ft.: 13.073
1/4: 15.602
1/4 MPH: 89.310

I have a AEM CAI, UDP, and shortshifter. Toyo Proxes T1S tires 215/40/17's.
Weather was in the 80's I believe....it was pretty warm.

Otter ran the same track later that night and was a tenth quicker I think. We have basically the same mods.
Ask him how bad I beat him in the autocross the next day .

The SRT-4 Was breaking loose all through first and second... Once he got traction he would usually catch up to what ever he was against...
