I don't know if the damage is to the gears of the synchros, but I've been in a few cars that have ground 1st to 2nd that have clunky shifts.
I think I need to get a mechanic to drive my car to get what I'm talking about. Even when I shift at 2500rpms, the shift from 1st to 2nd gear is not very smooth. There is no grinding sound, it doesn't have trouble getting into gear, the only thing is that the "feel" is slightly off. It feels almost "cheap" for lack of a better word and has a more jagged feel to it. Shift to 3rd, 4th, and 5th are solid. It's just from 1st to 2nd that feels odd. Does everyone still think this is something a dampener will fix? Something tells me that engine movement is probably not causing this at 2500rpm. My car only has 6k miles on it and I don't drive it very hard (except the standard launch after toll booths

As far as dampeners go, I would recommend people put out a bit of extra money for the Zaklee one, it's a more sturdy and better built one than the NSC one.

ddcha, have you upgraded your shift bushings yet?

No I haven't upgraded my bushings yet. Do you still recommend the speedsource underhood brass ones? $28 shipped and 30min install sounds like something I can do. This will obviously void my warranty though right?

This should not void your warranty.

The only way a modification can void a warranty is if that modifiction was directly related to causing a problem with the car.

yes, in theory you're correct. But trying to get the dealer to cooperate is another story

This isn't theory, it's a law.

I think you need to find a cool dealer/service shop like I have. One that is "mod friendly".

The dealer shouldn't give a fack if they honor the warranty or not, because it's really Mitsu that is warranting the cars, not the independent dealer.
Mitsu encourages dealers to protect them by denying any work to be done under warranty that appears to be caused by modifications to the car. Some dealers take it to the extreme, while others couldn't care less.
I mean really, if you had a problem with the engine or anything else besides the part of the car that the bushings directly interact with.....the dealer should warrant the work or prove that the modification (the bushings) actually caused the damage. If they act like a-holes, take your business elsewhere.

The reason dealerships are so resistant towards warranty repairs is that, while Mitsu pays for the parts, the dealership has to pay for the labor.

do you guys think it would be a bad idea to use a dampner and harder motor mounts at the same time. would the engine be too stable?

I think that the engine can't be too stable... it will never stop moving ! but it will be alot worse then stock, my 06 is horrible... time to get zaklee damper to help my TWM short shifter and bushings.
