My new '06! BUT.. some troubling questions..

I just picked up a new '06 in pearl white... First of all thanks to all that suggested I get white instead of black.. You are/were so right.. Now here is what is troubling me..

I traded in a yellow '05 Ralliart. The color just didn't sit with me..

Is it me or does the '06 sound much quieter.. That doesn't make me happy. Now I believe it SOUNDS the same, but the volume is definitly not there.. I liked my '05's volume on the exhaust..

1) Does it take time for the exhaust to burn in? for the resonators to burn in?
2) Did Mitsubishi use more sound deadening on the '06's?
3) Is it possible that somthing was removed on my old '05? I looked at the exhaust and it appears to be exact. I asked the parts guy and he said they are the same

Next. The car does not seem to have the same "pull" as my '05

1) again is this because it hasn't broken it yet? My old '05 had 8K miles on it.

2) is this an exhaust issue?

3) The new one rides softer.. Any suspension changes?

This might be explained by the tire pressure of which I have yet to check in the new car.. It doesn't feel as darty as the '05.. Again, I will check the pressure in the tires.

So what did they really change in the new '06's?

Does anyone know for sure? ( besides the obvious new grill, airbags and seats covers..)

personal reasons.. I bought the '05 from New York.. It was a demostrator that was used by a Mitsu executive... Got a good deal on it but there were things about the car that bothered me so lets leave it at that ok? My money, my decision.. Can you help me out on my original questions?

Thanks

Probably just needs to go through the break in period.

ya you should definatly go easy on the car and follow the recommended break in "rules" My exaust note on my car changed around 5-6k. After about your second oil change you exaustt should sound how it was on your old car

I think there's a "Federal" model of Ralliart and a "California" model. In which case the California models will have stricter emissions controls, which usually means quieter exhaust and a little less power.

Your first RA, being from New York, was a Federal car, and your new one is probably a California car.

The Mitsubishi CAPS parts lookup program lists Federal, Canada, and California models. Just a quick look doesn't show anything different, but I'd be willing to bet there's something.

I'm pretty sure the muffler is different, at least when you go to buy a stock Ra muffler it says California model then "everywhere else".

I know if you have an automatic, it takes a while for the gears to adjust to your style of driving and braking! (that's only if you bought the automatic though) My 06 has just as much rumble out of the exhaust as an 05.

Congrats on choosing the white!!!!!

Maybe it's the MIVEC?

Honestly I have no idea and I'm just guessing.

Nope I have the 5 speed and thanks for the congrats... I love the white and the new grill has really grown on me.. Looks very sporty and it offsets against the white very nicely!

When I drove old '05 on the freeway, I would step on the gas and it would really pull away, so much so, it surprised me how easily it did it... The white one moves but with much less authority..

Give it some time, after break in it will start feeling like your 05. Mechanically there are no differences whatsoever between 05-06 but (i might get burned by these) no 2 cars are excactly the same. Meaning some cars of the assembly line are faster than others but the diff is barely noticeably. Bottom line give it some time it will loosen up.

P.S. Excelent color choice

Really strange, some RA owners from my place think that my car sounds better ... maybe it's the CAI or it's my driving !

But I'm in Canada so maybe the Cali and Federal are really different
