I got one of those buyback offers in the mail

Mitsu dealer says they want to buy back my car, $4500 credit towards a new car. I know this has been discussed before, but has anyone followed through with this thing???

Nope. Get those all the time.
Sounds like a good offer.....but it is a marketing tactic to get you to come to the dealership.

Hmm, I would still check it out or call the dealership. $4500 credit could make the difference of your loan and how much you owe on your RA. I know I owe about 2500 more than what the car is probably worth, but would like to have +$2000 more equity to put on a new mitsubishi (like the IX) ontop of what I have saved up.

Is there any proof that this is mearly a scam, just to get you in there doors and they deny the credit?

After having worked sales, let me give you some advice:

WAC is usually mentioned in very small fine print somewhere in the ad... It means With Approved Credit...

If a dealer advertises $3000 Minimum trade and your car is only worth $500, you are paying that extra $2500 somewhere... Its usually figured in the numbers somehow or with a %1 or so higher interest rate...

And my favorite, the $99 a month car... Usually only applies with 4-5K Down on a 9-10K car and WAC of a 750 beacon score or higher...

Ask me why I now work in the service dept. I got tired of watchin people get ripped off...

I have gotten a few of those buyback offers and from my expirience they are never what they seem. I went to see about possibly trading my ralliart for an Evo and about 10 minutes into the dealing they actually threw away my notice and said why not just have both they really didnt need my ralliart anyways which was a month old with about 500 miles on it. Maybe too new? i dont know but ill never bother with junk mail like that anymore.

Thanks. I figured, but wanted to see who actually brought it to the dealer. I've since thrown mine in the garbage after reading your comments. Thanks.

That said, I found Mitsu has quite a few bucks in dealer incentives from the manufacturer to work with. When I bought my 05 RA last year, they gave me more for my trade-in than anybody else would, by like $1,500. Mazda for example, wouldn't give me jack for it. (It was a POS Sentra) I figured the other dealers a) had lots of Sentras for used sales b) didn't need to sell new as badly and c) didn't have dealer incentives to play with.

This is Ottawa in Canada, so YMMV, but they cut me a good deal. Also, I negotiated for the car BEFORE I talked trade. I was very happy with it, and I don't think I could have sold the used one for more even if I cleaned it up and sold it myself.
