Not sure what all is under the hood.
Not sure what all is under the hood.
I bought an 05 Ralliart about a month ago. I brought my buddy to take a look at it for me before I made my final purchase. He quickly noticed the Injen CAI. I did not say anything about it to the dealer because he seemed unaware of it and I did not want to give him any leverage. About a week after I got it home I wondered if there was anything else modded on it. So I took a look.... I don't know much about cars, but could not notice anything out of the ordinary, except for a huge metal pipe that is my CAI. I have been scouring these forums since I bought it and have determined that the only other mods that may have been done to it is maybe a piggyback and/or underdrive pulley. I can't really see the pulley that well. I may take the wheel off to get a better look soon, but my real question is about the piggy back.
Where on earth would this go if it was installed?
The suspension may have been modded because this car takes corners like nobody's business. My car is quite speedy already, and I am not sure of existing mods or if the ralliart is just like that.
If I don't have those mods in already, then I will put them in as soon as I can afford it. Reading the forums; it seems they are the most bang for the buck.
Does anyone else agree?
Thanks
PS. Go easy on me I'm kinda new

People usually put their piggybacks in their glove compartments i think. For the pulley if you look on the left side of the engine straight down, the last pulley in the center is what you're looking for, if it's shiney you have the pulley if it's dull black you don't.
I highly doubt there is a piggy back on a car like that. An intake would be understandable. Usually dealers like to remove all aftermarket parts before they throw a car on the lot. Its likely that your intake is your only modification on your new car. enjoy.
I kinda figured the dealership would take anything out, but if they did not notice a huge CAI then they might not notice the piggyback. Unless the piggyback and CAI are in two separate "classes" of mods where they may remove one but not the other.
There was nothing in my glove box.
Where is the car's ECU located?
Anyone agree about the piggyback and pulley being the most bang for the buck?

Not to mention that the former owner would get much more money for the piggy reselling it than he would keeping it in the car when he got rid of it, then again thats probably true of the CAI as well...

Yes you can unplug it.... but you have to make a connector first !
I done that yesterday... the ECU is right behind the glove box, just left where you can see three 10mm bolts...
You can take off the glove box and if you have a piggy it should be holding right next to ECU with some tyrap (ziprap)
mine is under my passenger seat, but I made a harness to hide it and be abble to quickly disconnect it...

The second version piggback is so easy to install and remove, it took about 10mins. I can't see why anyone wouldn't remove it..
I have mine up for sale yet, it was the only mod that was noticable. I just used double sided tape and attached it under the glovebox, you couldn't even tell it was there.

rythmickason, the pulley would be noticable as would a new suspension. I also believe that the piggy back needs higher octane fuel to run.
Dealerships do not remove anything the previous owner installed. They sell the car as is with the remaining factory warranty.

As others said, remove your glove box and look around behind there. That's where mine was. I zippie-tied it to a bar directly behind and close to the wiring harness.
Suspension should be relatively easy to see. Just look under the rear of the car and see if the suspension is any color other then "grease" (for a better lack of words). If coilovers were changed, more than likely, the spring and shock would be green since most go with Teins. Or, the springs could be blue, with stock shocks, since many go with Progress.
Also look at front wheel gap. If the front fender gap is noticeably higher than the rear, prob no aftermarket springs/coilovers. One more thing to check is the possibility of a rear sway bar. Check out pic below for an example of one. It is noticeably thicker (and grease free) then the stock one.
BTW, this is what the stock coilovers (shocks) look like, but with a Progress Rear Sway Bar and perches.

I looked for the suspension stuff. I found all of my components greasy. That being said, I am rather impressed by the stock system. The front suspension was harder to look at. I will take a better look under the glove box later. Thanks
