Im looking into buying a shortshifter. it seems that B&M and Authority are the most popular and best ones. Besides the price difference what other difference is there?

 

haven't tried either of them, but I got a TWM one. I suppose the difference between them would be a small percentage of throw motion deducted compared to stock. Percentage different would probably be minimal as they all do the same thing. Authority SS from Lancershop takes forever, least thats the rumour.

RPW also has a short shifter in addition to the TWM I recommended

 

Go for authority for the price you just can't go wrong and waiting would be worth it..

 

There's really no difference between the authority shifter and the non-adjustable B&M one. You definitely can't beat the price on the Authority shifter. If you don't want to get it from Lancershop, I'm sure you can find it cheap elsewhere. For example, I just found it on eBay for under $50, then buy a set of bushings from speedsource, zaklee, or kartboy and you'd be all set.

 

I personally thought the stock short shifter wasn't bad but installed the bushings, that made a better feel out of the two.

 

how much for any? i heard it was easy to install

 

I have the TWM... 150$ CAN with canadians taxes (15%) and shipping....

but it feel so good !

 

i got the authority for like $55, it did take a while from lancershop

the install was really easy, takes about 25 minutes even if you don't know what you're doing

i did the shifter bushings when i was in there too,

i hear that getting stiffer engine mounts can do the most for shifting feel though, havnt done those yet

 

What is wrong with the stock short shifter?

 

It's not very short. Aftermarket ones have a much shorter throw.

I have the cheapie Authority Short Shifter (or the A.S.S.) on my 03

I test drove a IX GSR and a MR back to back and then my car again this last Saturday night.

Obersvations:

I immediately noticed the longer throw on both IX's not bad just noticeable, in spite of that silky smooth MR tranny ... and it is deffinitley smooth.

But having said that, the quickest combo that I have found for my "touch" is the *** shifter with the stock nob. I bought one of those RAZO bowling *****, and while it looked the best to me, the lighter stock knob made things feel faster .... between the stock, *** nob (supplied with the short shifter), and the Razo.

(that was kinda fun )

I'll bet the fancy B&M (?) is worth checking out.

 

yall are talking about the authority shifter that says its for the evo right? wow lotsa evo stuff must work for us. i might just hacta check that out.

 

Nope...thats pretty much it. Most interior pieces work. Ie. Pedals and steering wheel.

 

Not debating that the aftermarket ones aren't shorter, but really it's all a matter or relativity.

For instance, shifting the xr is like sitting at the supper table and reaching for the last potatoe down at the end of table, while driving the ra feels like a flick of wrist.


I couldn't imagine putting the short throw on the ra, feels like I need to get on fro my xr just so that it's not such a transtion between the two.
