I bought my car brand new in the fall of '04 and since then, its been through a whole lot of bangs and bruises. the bumper has been hit two or three times, fenders has marks from some inconsiderate as$hole and now there are scratches all over my hood and roof probably from the fading clearcoat. not to mention, there are some scratches by the door panel as a result from getting drunk one night and locked myself out of the car. me and my friend idiotically got it open with a pocketknife (i know i'm retarded). its my first car and all of it pretty much happened in the first year or so. it sounds pretty rough, but it actually isnt as bad as it sounds. i live in the city so we parallel park alot but now we have a little lot so people don't hit our cars.

The thing is, i only wanted the area with scratches painted but the sales guy at the shop said it would only cost 500 (their christmas special) to get the whole car done. this would come with a lifetime warranty. i'm not a expert in this area so i'm looking for advice. do u think getting the whole car repianted is a good idea vs. just the area with scratches?

 

I wouldn't paint it to factory spec. I'd put a good clear coat on there. No more BS with the clear coat mixed with the base coat.

Right, they will use the same ****ty paint. If you go to a good shop and specifically ask them to use good paint + clearcoat, it will last WAY longer. It will also probably be more expensive, but at least you won't have chips, swirls and scratches all over it in another 2 years.

Find a shop that has a good reputation, its better to pay the price for a properly done job than a half assed job for cheap money which'll just mean another paint job sooner down the line. Don't go to the dealer, i had a bumper painted from them and there were drips and buildups all over the bumper, had to take it back to get it fixed and it took them a week to fix it, which is BS. Though i wish i had the reciept to figure out how much it cost... But good luck with the paint job.

Yes and it will look like a $500 paint job You pay for what you get...

 

i know thats what i'm thinking too. i'm gonna to a detailer and see how much they can help me out. maybe i wont need the entire thing painted after all.
