My car died on me again!

just got home and right now i'm a little concerned about my car. yesterday, it died on me, which was a real shocker because i didnt leave it on or anything. i figured it just randomly happened and i have nothing to worry about. just now, it died again after only about half hour of driving. wtf??? does the battery need to be replaced or something? could it be the ud pulley; i heard it draws extra power but no one else seems to be having problems with it. i can't believe this.

right after it died, i got out of my car, shouted some mean words at it and kicked the rear bumper. not only do i have a severely scratched up car that mitsubishi will not warranty, but now i have to worry about the battery dying on me. what a pos... what should i do?

if it died while driving it, it has nothing to do with the battery. but it could be way to many things for anyone to know w/o getting under the hood. hope you know a mechanic who wont try to F**k you.

The battery is probably fine, just discharged. Even with the UD pulley, the alternator should be able to keep the battery charged. Put a battery charger on it overnight, and then go get your alternator tested.

I would think it has to do with that UD pully....do you drive your car for long distances or when you drive it, is it just a short trip and then the car is shut off again? I know a couple people with UDPs on their cars(none of them lancers though) and they say that if you are doing short trips all day long, they've found by the end of the day, it wont start, or has a serious case of slowcrank when starting. In my mind, the UDP will make the alternator charge less, but if you drive long enough, i would think it would be okay, it would charge it enough, but not on a short trip...it would be hard to replenish all the power that the starter needs. Also, do you have a big soundsystem in your car? I would just do like was suggested, charge the battery up, then get the alternator tested for how much its putting out. if its not putting out enough, try butting the stock pully back on and seeing what you've got them...

THis is why im reluctant to mod my car...i have rage issues like you, my old swift has some really nasty dents and scratches on it....i shouldnt wear steel toes around cars. lol.

i dont take the car on long trips. i mean it is my daily driver but my drives are like 20 miles back and forth each day. and i dont have a sound system in it at all.

i'm gonna take my car to advanced auto parts now to test the alternator. what happens if the alternator is bad? just needs to be replaced right?

yup. Will need replaced if the alternator is bad. Wouldn't be a bad idea to get the battery checked out as well.

And I seriously doubt it is the UDP....

nop its not hard, very easy actually,

A battery doesnt last too much years, so if it has been the same one since 2004, I think that's your problem

Doubt its the pulley. i drive my car 3mi. to and from my friends house to carpool 5days a week and it never gave me any problems. And for long trips i'm posting from down in VA right now. ****ty drive snow on and off the whole way down...

Ive had it in for 20000mi now and it hasnt effected the charging or starting system at all.

battery's last for awhile, 2 years of battery life is pretty low.
