Front Bumper Repair Question

Would a dealer body shop be able to repair a fiberglass front bumper (Evo 8 FB)? The bumper just has a alot of cracks in it but its not broken. Would they use fiberglass to repatch it or would they use something else like bondo?

I would think bondo.... but they will charge you a lot $$$

Id look for a local shop to do it for a better price

maybe try a diy, depending on the extent of damage, to save cash

How much do you think it would be, maybe a grand, maybe more? My GF's mother backed into it and caused a series of cracks all around the bumper and my headlight has shifted alittle. She told me money is not a problem as long as it gets fixed. Just wanted to see what they would do in order to fix the fiberglass bumper. Thanks for the help.

without seeing pics of it and not knowing the full extent - but as a guess I would say that a panel and paint repair place would not charge more than $300 (AUD) and if they did then you are being ripped a new one

If you were to repair it yourself the parts required should not cost more than $50 (AUD) and you will have left overs then painting should only be a touch up and possibly $150 (AUD)

sorry to have to use AUD but this is what I use - now if it is going to be quoted at $1k then buy a new front bar that will not cost much at all incomparison

As for the headligt that is another matter altogether has the bracket broken has the metal around the light been dented does the bonnett still close etc...

it should be 300$ at the very most, and they should definitly not use bondo! make sure they actually repair the fiber glass properly by repairing it with more fiberglass.

Well just got quoted $735. To me thats not bad at all i was thinking close to the $2000 range. If it came to that i would of just gone back to stock. They told me that they would repatch it with fiberglass and look at it further once the bumper is removed. I trust my body shop because they do excellent work and also i work for the mitsu dealer. Theyve repaired my fathers 3000GT whole front back to stock and it looks like it was never hit and it was in a severe accident, replaced fenders, bumper, hood, lights, new paint, etc .

pics of the damage might "justtify" the costs but that sounds way to expensive but maybe the damage is worse than we are led to believe?

they will probaly put some bondoglass on the back to give it some structure and then just put body filler and paint it.

That shouldn't be hard to do should it? From hardware stores you can get fibreglass patches for fixing things like fibreglass rainwater tanks etc that you could patch behind the crack then as Red Dragon mentioned fill and paint.

i agree with not using the dealership but ive never been fond of fiberglass kits for the whole cracking and shipping reason...i just wish more kits were made in polyurethane
