i was looking at these - because the RRM udp is smaller, it turns things slower and i wonder if this would help stabilize the alt.??? anyone? I dunno...i

I have one installed on my RA. You all know the RA has a problem with static that as soon as you try to get off the car and touch the door you will receive a small shock. After installing this in my car it was gone also when I cranked up the volume of the radio the lights dimmed but it was gonne too

no static shock? I have been trying to think up ways to stop this, the only thing I came up with (and no, I haven't tried this) is to put a piece of heavy gauge wire underneath the car and let it drag. That should ground the car constantly and prevent the discharge. This isn't really feasible, however, due to the fact that the wire would wear out daily. I was hoping my additional ground wires would help, but it wasn't the case as I still get shocked.

IMO, it's junk. The only time the alternator isn't putting out constant current is at idle, nobody needs more horsepower at idle, and fuel efficiency will always be 0 at idle. As for the shock thing, I haven't been shocked by my car since it was new. I long ago got into the habit of brushing my leg against the sill as I step out of the car. It grounds me, I don't get shocked, and I've been doing it for so long I don't even think about it. Best of all, it didn't cost me $40.

I do the same thing with my leg, and now that it is getting humid again I won't have to worry about it at all. When it is cold and dry here, even with jeans on, the car shocks my leg too, just not as badly.

I don't think there is any performance gain from the voltage regulator/stabilizer either, no matter what is does for the shock. Maybe if the alternator was barely pumping out enough juice to run the car, but like otter said, there is plenty of juice available. Besides that, the battery can run the car without the alternator so even at idle with a big stereo system the car should not have electrical issues.

When you swing your left foot out of the car and set it on the ground, make sure the back of your calf is touching the sill (sideskirt.) This will ground you to the car while you're getting out and you won't get shocked.
