Whats wrong!?

Ok, over the past few weeks i have noticed that shifting from first to 2nd gear has been a little more difficult than normally. Then this morning i get in my car start it up and out the car into neutral and as i let my foot off the clutch the car starts to lurch forward. (Luckily i put my foot back on the clutch fast enough and had the ebrake still on) Stupified... i make sure the car is still in neutral and slowly take my foot of the clutch and same thing! What the heck?

Then i am driving in traffic on my way to work and as out the clutch in and shift into first the car starts downshifting even while my foot is on the clutch. But it only revved up to like 1500rpms or so. Then shifting out of first became ridiculously hard.

THEN as i pull up at work and try backing into a parking spot, i started backing up and then after about 4 or 5 feet of backing up my car started shaking and stopped going backwards. It was like the car was like "no thank you, i rather go forward so lets act like we are in a forward gear." Kinda ridiculous if you ask me. It wouldnt stall backing up but it would shake the car violently like if you were stalling it in first, then it would just stop. Even if the clutch was barely out it would do it.

So while i was at school and work i had my pops call the local dealership and they said bring it in whatever and let us look at it. So tomorrow after work i am going to bring it over there and hopefully see what is wrong. Do any of you guys have any idea of what can possibly be going on!? It seems to weird to just be a clutch going out. But i really have no idea. Does anybody....?

PS sorry for the long post. as you can imagine i am very frustrated and upset. But i have gotten TONS of ideas and good advice from here. So i respect your opinions and replies. THANKS!!

i have a problem getting into 1st and reverse sometimes, it will go half way into gear but not enough to get it going. when that happens i just take it out of the gear, put it in another and it seems to do the trick. of course you couldnt do this while your driving.

What mods do you have?

Check your shifter bushings. Sounds like what just happened to me recently. The car will be able to be put into a gear and then will not shift out of it.

The bushings are found under your hood right below your air intake.

Agreed, I'd definitely check all your bushings and cables, first.

You all are remembering to change your fluid, right? I have 62k miles and my trans works like it's new.

43k and going strong! slight problems with mobil1 synthetic, which leads me to believe fluid is even that much more important for this tranny.

Possibly. There are very few fluids I would put into our trannies. Basically, either OEM fluid, BG Synchroshift I or II (what I use), or GM Synchromesh.

Mine never does that. The only time first gives me any trouble is when it's super cold outside (>25*), but even then, once the car is running for a couple minutes everything is smooth again.

Sometimes (seems like when its cold) my car is harder to get into gear, but i dont have and problems after i get it in. I have 22,500 miles on my 04. Kind of scares me sometimes that i really have to like "shove it in gear", but seems when it is warmer it shifts smoother than glass.

I am under warranty... still under 3 years only 28000 miles on the RA. I have no engine or tranny mods so nothing to worry about there. Fluid is good, checked it like 2000 miles ago. Everything under the hood looked fine as well.

But i took it to the dealer today and they are most likely gonna pull the transmission and check it out, but i most likely wont hear anything from them until monday.

The dude there said it should be under warranty unless its the clutch plate. And if it is the clutch plate it is going to cost me $850 just to have them take out the transmission and put it back. Thats not fixing anything. SO I am hoping that it is something stupid and easily fixable (if possible) in the transmission. For $$$ sake.
Thanks for the input though guys. I will let ya know as i find out.

Norcal, I am in Cotati. Its just south of Santa Rosa, and like 50miles north of SF.
