First Autocross of 2007!!!

April 1st was the first autocross of the season in the Indy region.....and it was a good time (fun event, no points or trophies handed out). Sunny but windy weather.....not too bad at all.
As some of you know, I have new coilovers and brakes to try this season, and they did not disappoint at all (review shortly on coilovers in the Suspension section).
However, due to a tire fiasco (damaged one of my Hankook RS2's that I use to race with...don't ask), I had to go on my all season Hankooks instead. One thing is for sure, the all seasons get a for grip on an autocross course.

Results:
-111 total competitors
-12 in my class (STS)
-Finished 3rd in class, and 26th overall on the indexed (PAX) times.

I was pleased with the result considering that:
1. I was on my all season tires
2. first event with new suspension and brakes
3. First in class was a nationally prepped car and driver (2 seconds back from him)
4. Only out of 2nd place in class by .2 of a second

Some cars I beat on RAW time:
Porsche 911, BOTH S2000's, ALL the Mustangs, Mini Cooper S, Boosted Acura TL, 240SX (several), WRX STI, Several Civics, Several Focus's (Foci?).
The lone Evo there (a IX MR) only beat me by 1 second.....and he is not stock.

For those of you considering autocross.....you can be VERY competitive in the SCCA STS class with the Ralliart.
I haven't even prepped the car fully to the class rules yet, and feel I can compete with the top dogs consistently now.

looks like it is time for me to buy a project autoX car. I'm thinking an older Civic Hatch or something. Cheap + readily available parts!

Nice driving. I want to do that, but can't afford to ruin my car.

I definitely am going to autocross more this year. Problem is that my mods throw me way up in classes Unless I put my cat back in before each run. Even then, I'm not sure if I would still be in STS. As my car sits, with no cat, I think I'm in SM, which is where a lot of the all-out track cars are. Yeah, no chance there.

You seriously think autocrossing ruins your car?

When the budget is so tight that the tires and brakes you have must last forever, yes. Plus there's already a pop when I corner hard (which no one can locate). I don't need suspension breakage right now.

Ah....I understand now. You are talking about consumables (tires and brakes) that you want to have last longer. I can understand that.

Check your front lower control arms for that pop....those are a weak point on the front suspension.

yes, check the welding around the lower ball joint. that could be cracked and shifting when you corner.
