Installing Gauges
Hey everyone,
I want to purchase a set of gauges and was wondering how do I know where to link these gauges up to, to get the reading - or is this simple with instructions?
Searched the 'How to' thread and came back with nothing.
Also, my car being N/A, what would be the best three gauges to choose from:
Oil Temp. Gauge
Water Temp. Gauge
Oil Pressure Gauge
Air / Fuel Gauge
Vacuum Gauge
Volt Gauge
If you have the time, list the best top 3. Thanks

Where you would need to connect them depends entirely on what kind of gauge you're trying to hook up. There should be basic instructions in the package. If you need further clarification, post up on here and you should be able to get help.
Electronic gauges for oil pressure and oil temperature definitely would top my list.
A/F is pretty much just for show, it's worthless for tuning.
Vacuum is somewhat useful, as a fuel economy gauge. The higher you can keep the vacuum, the better your fuel economy will be.
Voltage can tell you if your alternator is dead or dying, but if you're doing that, I'd suggest a voltmeter / ammeter gauge. It reads voltage on one needle, amperage on another. Not only do you know if your alternator is dead or not, you can see how much power you're drawing from or putting into the battery.
The truly sad thing is, many of these gauges were standard equipment on older cars. Ours didn't even come with oil pressure.

I have Oil Press, Voltage and A/F. They are all GlowShift guages (glowshift.com)
and I have been extremely happy with them. You can see pics if you search the show and shine, just look for my name that wrote the post. Also, I have a write up on how to install the a/f guage in the installations/how to's section. Any other questions just ask! I'll help you install them thru the forum if you need it...

I wouldnt think the A/F is useless for tuning. right now i think i'm running a little lean and it would be nice to already know before i boot up the laptop what RPM ranges im focusing in and if i'm at a state where the car is running dangerously lean.
also oil temp and pressure.

The kind of A/F gauge the OP is probably talking about would be a narrowband (cheap kind) which is useless. It's just pretty blinking lights for show.
Oil pressure gauge sensor can be installed in place of the stock oil pressure sensor, which is on the back of the block, down low underneath the IM. Oil temp can be installed at the filter. Or, if you wanted, you could get a filter block, and install both sensors at the filter. I don't recall if an Evo filter block will fit our car or not. Quick search would answer that.

Thanks to everyone, I got some very informative information!
Seems as though I'll probably be getting the Oil Temp, A/F and Voltage as this seems to be popular amongst many of you. Also because this will be a tuning benefit as well.
Redline, I'll be on the look-out for your writeup on installing gauges - ta!

I wouldn't bother with AF unless your going wideband and plan on running a piggyback even then it's simple for a shop to just do the tune.
I went with Oil temp,Oil pressure,Water temp but really oil pressure was the main one I wanted. If you feel like blowing money Defi is the way to go for a clean install.
