changing the filter isnt hard,
ive had to put mine on and off at least 20 times because of a faulty part.
you should be able to do this with no problems.
i suggest using a flat head screwdriver and some needle-nose pliers.
and be gentle, i busted one of those the first time i took that splash guard off.
as for the filter cleaning, just follow the directions on the recharge kit,
you cant go wrong following directions.... unless its for a valve lash.
that's one reason I don't take off the splash guards unless I have to, they are too difficult to get off without replacing those stupid *** plastic trim screws. the more you take them off the more likely you are to **** up one of those dumb *** plastic things. the bumper, on the other hand, doesn't require much work at all. you don't have to remove anything extra, unless you include the grills, and it's like 6 or 8 plastic PUSH clips (including the grills) and two squeeze clips underneath the car with two screws under where the grills were.

it really lowers assembly time and costs though, and all manufacturers do it. just sucks they don't make cars to last like everything else. the engine will run fine for 30 years if you take care of it, but you interior will be so full of rattles and creaks it will be unbearable. my dad's 66 chevy pickup rattles less than my '04 mitsu.
