Changing intake filter

i've had my injen cai in my car for almost a year now and i have yet to change the filter. the only thing keeping me away from doing it is i have to take the front bumper off since i have an auto. i'm definitely trying to do it soon tho. question is do i have to get a new filter or can i just clean out the one i have? and how long are u suppose to change the thing anyway?

You could just clean it, re-oil it and reuse it as long as its not damaged. What i plan on doing this summer though is buying the AEM dryflow filter and using that because it does not require oil and can just be washed with soap water then dryed and put back on.

i dont mean to get off topic, but do you know if you have to use the dryflow cleaning solution that aem has on thier website, or can you literally use soap and water?

by removing the splashguard from beneath the car you can acces the filter. I recently installed the extension of the Injen cai and took me like 20 minutes, and that is counting time to rise the car put the jack stands and cutting the liner. It's very easy. Just be careful not to break the clips

Ive seen other people use soap and water on their K&N with no probs and i dont see why not. But for the K&N you do need to oil it though as for all other oil based filters.

not hard , you need a flat head screwdriver, and remember how they went on you'll have to unclip like 3 sections just to get to the one you need to get to , did this about a week ago to put on injens hydrosheild only to find out that I needed a larger one......

You can use soap and water to clean the filter, but you might as well use K&N's filter cleaner, since it comes with the filter oil you need to buy.

the bumper is very simple to remove. people say it's not necessary. couldn't tell you for sure though, I always remove the bumper if I'm messing around that part of the car
