too many people think i have stock...
i have the cai, i have the udp, i have the short throw from rrm,
(all are from rrm actually). I also have filled motor mounts.
perhaps i should follow suit and make an informative signature.

i agree with you on a lot of stuff,
and i mean lets face it, im not speed racer,
my friends from school call me nascar lately,
but thats not cause im going to race for money or fame ever.
turbo SOUNDS hot,
evo sounds sexy too.
i think some headers and a DP would be nice, and maybe next year get the turbo.
MAYBE.
im not a stupid kid, i like to plan things out and think practically.
maybe i should just do the headers and dp and call it a day?
maybe ill debadge it some... i already get mistaken for an evo on the daily.

You could get the dp/header but you won't have a cat, so you might want to have a high flow welded in. Also remember if you want to keep yourself busy you can do what i do, inbetween power/suspension mods i do minor cosmetic mods, DIY stuff. AKA I'm doing gauge setup for cheap, making stuff myself etc. If you know where to find the resources your possibilities are endless. Just keep saving up, and spend a little here/there on minor inbetween larger project jobs... I love it when people come up and ask me where my intercooler went.

well thats my point.
i changed my own tranny oil last week.
i did my own exhaust on my own car
and next week i wanna adjust the valve lash.

i like to tune.
but if i go evo.
its like ok, i paid for the fast car and it took no work.
as opposed to.
well i built this RA from the ground up, and somehow,
this made my ***** 2 inches longer and 1 inch thicker.
get what im saying?
respect comes with tuning... envy comes from buying new cars.

im still waiting on those results ...

yeah thats what im thinking, i love it when u can step back from something and say _I_ did that, i was soo happy when i installed my tiebar, sri and pulley, like i know they are only minor things but im not really that mechanical savvy and to pull apart a $20+K piece of machinery put it back and have it work just felt good(also that my parents wouldn't beat me for breaking the thing)...

you hit the nail on the head.
i changed my tranny oil.
i felt like i was the man.
no hp gain, no special badge.
just felt great.

so imagine how you feel when you install a turbo (propperly) and you car doesnt explode, but goes really fast.
so here i sit still thinking...

There is a guy somewhere on the forums with an amusing sig. Something along the lines of "I don't own an evo because at least in my RA I have to try" (Put your hand up and post for us pal!)

The way I see it is, yes building a car from the ground up is by far more satisfying than anything else, it's like a big achievement and something you should be well and truly proud of. Gives you some sense of joy and respect. Especially in a RA y0!

On the other hand, I wouldn't entirely rule out Evos as having no work and no tuning and its too easy etc. I mean, Evos against us (non-turbos ), well of course they'll beat us, those cars are in another league and I guess in that sense, they will mod up and tune up against other cars in their league. They have nemisis' that they have competition with as well.

Do ya know what I mean?

yes.
you are telling me to buy a lot of noz.

not really, i do understand, but you know what,
if i get this car fast enough to beat an evo or two,
i dont think there would be a person in this forum that wouldnt open their eyes a little wider and say thats sweet.

where if i just bought an evo, and smoked someone,
the observers would just be like "well, it is an evo"
get me?

That'd be me..
There were two reason's i bought my car. And nether of them were because it was cheaper than an evo. I could have bought an evo now that i think about it, but opted not to.

First reason, if you look on the streets you see Lancer ES's, OZ's, and EVO's... never a RA (or in boston at least). People always ask me what's been done to the car, especially when I shock the s*** out of them when i floor it a bit and they're riding passenger or behind me. Its nice when someone says "wow this isn't a normal lancer.. its got some nice kick to it" (not bashing on the other model lancers... just the 2.4L thing, yanno.. haha)

Secondly its a unique engine... little did i know that it was so unique barely anyone made parts for it. But my friends were all wowed by its capabilities, and the MIVEC concept, which they all was stolen from honda.. haha

O and i guess finally, i love the stock suspension, all my friends bounce on it and complement the tightness of it. Its not the best but definitely beats some other similar cars out there by far.

BTW i just finished Pro-E designing a new fake gauge panel for my car.. instead of gauges i'm installing a 3 pod (off a 42draftdesign panel) smoked lense cabin setup that i can put anything behind, shift light, another clock (??), my smart cord for my radar detector etc... Its at the machine shop now at my work, i'll toss some pics up when i'm done.

I think like most have said do a few other mods to the car before you look at either the headers or the turbo - there is still a stack of other stuff that needs to be attended to... Brakes - shocks/coilovers - LSD - etc plus looks and sounds

I still think that there is no substitute for cubic capacity especially when you add a turbo to it sure it is FWD but good suspenssion will still fix 80 % of traction woes...

You also need to remember that a EVO whilst being AWD is also heavier than R.A's by at least 200kg (sorry not sure on lb's.. 450lb's?) and being awd they lose a larger percentage of power thru the drive train vs the FWD

I have no doubt that some of the turboed R.A's on this forum are capeable of holding there own against a evo even a moderately modified evo
