Indy AutoX 4/22/07!!
Indy AutoX 4/22/07!!
First points event of the season is in the books here. Finally got the chance to try out the "complete package" of modifications I have recently added (coilovers, brake pads/fluid, tires)....as I now have ALL my competition tires in working order(Hankook RS2's).
Weather was perfect as you can see from the pictures, and there were 106 competitors total, with 10 in my class (STS). I ran in the 2nd run group, and we got 4 runs for the day:
1st run - 41.202
2nd run - 40.361
3rd run - 39.990
4th run - 39.767 (plus 1 cone = 2 second penalty)
I definitely am still getting used to the setup on the car now, as it is very close to neutral and has a lot more grip now than I am used to. On my best run I did make at least 2 mistakes, and even held back in a couple sections (still not used to the grip). So time to fix the driver.
Results:
-3rd out of 10 in class. Only .5 out of second, 1.5 out of first (600 lbs. heavier than 1st place car).
-22nd out of 106 on the PAX index.
Fastest raw time of the day was 36.63 from a modified Lotus 7 with Hoosier slicks.
Enjoy the Pics below, and IN CAR VIDEO LINK
If you look closely at this one....you can see me looking out the side window ahead into the turn. Kinda dark, but trust me it is happening!

Notice the camber in the front sucks the tires up into the fender (no rubbing issues with 215/40/17 tires with a large amount of negative camber)

Still a little lean, but this is probably the max you will get with the RRM rear sway and coilovers.
This was a fast straight into a HARD 90 left turn. Probably took it at about 45mph. Rotated perfectly.

Set for the hard 90 left turn.

Off camber right turn. Tricky. Have to be careful not to lose the rear end on this one.

Lovely side profile.

Needed a couple of these after:

It was REAL FUN!
Second place was a VW VR6 GTI
First was.....wait for it......a 1965 Chevy Corvair fully prepped with a very experienced driver (at least 10 years....this is the BEGINNING of my 2nd year). I s#!t you not. I couldn't find anything with that car that would exclude him from the class, and he knew the rules real well when I talked to him. It was weird because most of the other Corvairs run in a modified class as they have gutted interiors, cages and newer motors.

^^ yup that's about what they look like. His looks a little different, but that is pretty much it.
You see some crazy stuff at autocrosses. The Corvair is Rear engine, RWD too.
There was also a black 427 AC Cobra there too....easily the most beautiful car there IMO (yes I did beat it too): http://jwwwebdesign.smugmug.com/gall...146169891-L-LB
As for first place finishes....I am working on it bro!
Hopefully sooner than later, just focusing on improving the driver at this point. I keep doing that and the top dog finishes should take care of themselves.
Thanks for the support!

In car video later tonight fellas......
how much money does it cost??? is it per race or is it per season? and if u do good do you win prize money???? i know it cost 14 bucks to drive in a straight line as many times u can in one night, just wanna know what the price is for doing laps.
Road course schools / time trials / HPDE's are much more expensive per event. I have seen anywhere from $175-$300 for about 60 minutes of track time. You can argue though that you get a lot more seat time during one track event than at 10 autocrosses. However risk goes up when you go to a track, so I would highly recommend a few autocrosses before diving into a road course. Autocross will teach you car control and precision.
Added video link to the OP. Enjoy.
