Autocross 6/3/07 -- Blink of an eye

The third points event of the season was at one of my favorite places: Grissom AFB. Huge amount of grippy concrete, wide open and fast course design. But on a course that was just under 55 seconds long....the top 3 in my class came down to what amounts to a blink of an eye: .306 of a second!

The bad news is that I was at the bottom end of the top 3, finishing 3rd for the third straight event. The good news is that I still have the points lead for the year, and my competition is just going to push me to get better and better.

I can feel I am right there with my driving, and need to smooth out a few things to be the true top dog for my region in this class. All this, and I have only just completed my 18th event. The top guys have 8-10 years of experience, and I am right there. I still have a ways to go, but I think at least it is in the right direction.
Many thanks to Rob at RRM for support and driving tips. Cheers bro, we are getting there.
Also...Had several of the "old hats" approach me to compliment my driving skill. So despite just missing a win, at least some of the "veterans" are taking notice of the skills and the Ralliart.

Results: 3rd of 8 in class; 19th of 88 on PAX index. Turns out that my class is likely the most competitive and easily the biggest for the Indy region. I wouldn't want it any other way.

Video of my best run here (51.572)

Some pics for your enjoyment:

Good stuff. When I was still in college I used to hit the Indy SCCA events, and yes the STS class there is pretty deep. Of course my OZ Lancer used to get rocked in that class. I even remember running against a "prepped" gutted Corvair (how that was STS I still dont know). I never made it to Grissom though, I just hit the ones at old Bush statium and a few at the old Delco plant.

How many runs did you get? Which was yor fastest? Always great to see people autocrossing on this board.

^^ I have run against that Corvair once....he flips between about 3 classes. I honestly think he doesn't know where to run it.
5 runs, 4th was fastest. Every run was progressivly quicker.....except #5. I just overdrove, and I knew it before I even crossed the finish line and looked at my time.

BTW.....Grissom > Busch.

I will be in your neighborhood on June 24th at Route 66 in Joliet for a TSSCC event (looking to "steal" a trophy). Come on out!!!

^^ Thanks guys. I really appreciate the comments.
My only wish is that I started driving competitively a lot earlier in life. Better late than NEVER though! I am having a blast.

You have the "gift" of driving, and finding/sticking the turns. Some take YEARS, some don't EVER get it. You are AHEAD of alot of people who started EARLY, so you are behind nobody.

Never get tired of how those rims look on that RA, killing them on the track with skill, speed and good looks... Congrats.

Those vids just make me go do that myself...Im just a fan of how my car sounds when pushed

Thanks for the comment on the rims: not expensive, relatively light (17 lbs) and they look decent.

My friend I work with wonders why I don't get any tickets driving on the road {knocks on wood}. I told him I get all that out of my system at these events.
