I have gotten a reverse...I own an evo and at a local dragstrip...a couple of kids in a elevated pickup truck stopped behind me to check the car out. One of them said "It's just a lancer".....I still have the "Lancer Evolution" emblem.

Same day an older man asked me how much it took to convert my lancer into an evo....I replied...$33K..he told me I could have gotten a real evo for that price.

 

hmm, i had a few instances. First one, when I first got my car, i was parked in front of hollywood video or something, then this young fat kick walks past the front of my car, "whoa! it's an evo!" and stares at it then walks off...

another time i took my car to my Mitsu dealership and i dunno if it was the angle, but this salesguy was like, whoa, did you lower your car? i was like no, it's stock...

and one last time i was at bestbuy and i was gettin a stereo for my car and the bestbuy guy asked me, what kind of car do you have? I said a Mitsu lancer Ralliart and he was like, whoa, is that like an evo 6 or something? then i went on explaining to him what it was...

oh and another time, these random dudes were like racing around in a city and they wanted me to pull over to check out my car, so i opened the hood and he was like, where's the turbo? i said it didn't come with one, and his response was "i think you got gypped of one" and my respnose was "..."

 

It got to the point where i was getting tired of trying to explain the differences, and arguing with people who think they know my car better than me. I just tell them i have a special edition evo 7 that i shipped from japan, and had converted to LHD. Then i usually walk away before they can say anything else.

 

its normal alot of people dont know what an evo is for example we took my roomates evo in for a warenty transmission cuz it had a grind in 5th gear and the service manager at the mitsu dealer said "we cant warenty the tranny cuz u have a turbo on ur lancer" dead serious

 

this is the best i went to the mitsu dealer to get a oil change the same guy that sold me my car goes up to me and says "ohh hey hows the evo doing " i was like you sold me a ralliart buddy

 

So i go to the gas station yesterday, and this guy pulls up. Starts to pump his gay and says "Hey how do you like the laser"....i was like...ummm sorry, what? He responds "the laser.....your car. my wife has one". I just looked at him blankly and told him it was awsome...then he started to go on about how its so cheap to fill the tank up and everything. Then started to talk about his brother getting the new "turbo" one this weekend. I just laughed, walked inside and paid, then said see ya. Lol, im sorry but some people are kindve out of it lol

 

tonight i thought about pulling the lip kit off after backing into the cable support for a pole. its already got a huge chunk taken out of the front and now with the paint all ****ered up on the back im just sick of it

 

LOL in this is a funny thread. In Australia we associate ralliart with EVOs and Colt Turbos, thats just the way its is down here. The RA you have in the US is our VR-X. Maybe all these people are from Australia, where when you say ralliart we think evo. our ES and LS also have the 2.4L engine ^_^

Ralliart in Aussie is assosiated with the Evos and Colt Turbos. Nothing else.

Yea I had someone telling me my car wasn't an evo and that I put the brembos on myself. I guess I also put the widebody and badges also

 

if you never owned a lancer (or mitsubishi for that matter) you would never know the diffrence at first glance, especialy if its a darker color. for some reason even my eyes play tricks on me, from a distance. i cant tell the diffrence untill they get a few car length near me. but the brighter colors you can spot a mile away.

yall will laugh at this one but, when i first went to buy my ra i was actually looking at the evos and i was alittle upset with the prices, then i came across my ra and while looking at the sticker price , i say to the salesmen why is this evo so much cheaper than the rest LOL. and if you think thats bad the salesmen said "i dont know? let me go find out" LOL. by the time he got back i had already realized it wasnt an evo, but he came back out with two other guys and neither of them new what was going on either LOL.

long story short a compliment is a compliment ill take them all, wether or not they know what the hell they are talkin about haha. because i know i was once in thier shoes.

the first time i ever heard of a ralliart is by looking in yahoo autos, they had the RA and i thought it looked sic. after noticing what is was, i actually started noticing them on the street before i got one myself. ^_^

 

I had this one guy pull up to me in an explorer and say, "how does your evo run? Because I just bought the subaru version, and was stuck between it and an evo." I just said "This isn't an evo, I wish it was." And as he drove off I was like "Wouldn't all us Canadians love a choice between an evo and an sti."

 

that sorta sounds like me but i thought the guy who owned it before me hooked up his oz rally and then went home and researched it and realized i was an idiot. the next day i went back to test drive after just knowing that the ra was just the big brother of the oz rally and during the road test i asked the salesman whom i worked with at best buy if it was all wheel drive. he wasn't sure either so i was like "ill just try a burnout" he started chuckling but stopped as i peeled it out. gotta love torque
