help! melting problem

so, i'm located in eastern VA, where the weather isn't all that hot...i mean its hot but not like, say, Arizona or something like that....but i have a problem. The black plastic casing around my shifter is MELTING. not the actual shifter, but the casing around the P, R, N, etc. has anyone had this problem before? how can i fix it? im thinking of buying some high heat paint and sanding/painting it again...but does anyone know how to get it out TO sand and paint in the first place? comments/info/tips appreciated.

Man.. how hot does it get down there. That plastic should be rated to a pretty high temperature. I know i cooked some of the stuff we make here out of plastic, and it starts to become remotely soft around 50C though...

If the plastic is melting, high-heat paint won't help any. Show the dealer the problem, they might have changed the plastic they used on the 06 console. If that's the case, I would ask for an older console provided under warranty.

i guess i should say the paint finish on the plastic is melting, not the actual plastic...and it does get pretty warm around here, around 90-100 degrees, but it is VERY humid...extremely humid...the area i live is right on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay so theres always water in the air.

any more info? Thanks
