Just out of curiosity how long will our oem batteries last for cause when im out cruising and i stop for a while i like to have the car off and listen to music and my gf likes to watch movies on the dvd player...i push about 600rms so not too big and ive watched movies on a medium volume and i normally start my car once or twice about half way through just in case but it would be nice to actually know so some day i don't look like an idiot that needs a boost cause he was too into the movie. ty

 

i've actually always wondered this myself. I push a competition-style system and I'm usually paranoid even WITH a voltmeter. My next purchase will be a Yellow top anyways.

 

me too lol id like to know, when i cruise i like to have loud music on (well not REALLY loud, but pretty loud...) and when were at parks/chillin...etc i like to have music playing on the background and stuff..

 

i Have about 200 RMS worth of power being drained from my battery, and i have had my car off with the music as loud as it could go at a couple bonfires for over 2 hours, and have had no problem starting the car after. Its definitly a pretty descent battery.

No way to know without trying it on your own car, and each car is different. Keep in mind, though, those of you who listen to your stereos with the car off are shortening the life of your alternator. It's not designed to be constantly recharging your battery, only to recover it after a start then run the car.

 

That's a good point Otter.

Especially with today's batteries, (non replacable electrolyte water). You're not only putting your alternator through hell, but shortening the life of the battery (especially with high powered systems).

Also benny_ralliart, why do you have your RA by bonfires??? All of us may have to beat you.

 

lol, well its not right beside the fire! We jsut need some good tunes while chilin by the fire.

This all depends on where you live too. In hotter climates, esp. FL and AZ, don't expect much more than three years from a battery. Colder climates, expect a longer life. For example, the battery in my previous '00 Tiburon w/ 115K miles was still on the original battery as of 2006. My mothers '00 Alero's original battery just bit it last year too. So in the NE, you can expect 60 months from a OE battery. Colder temps FTW.

 

My stock battery is still going strong in the neighbor's DSM. I put an Optima red top in my RA.
