Coolant flush?

When should this be performed? I cant find it detailed in my owners manual or shop guide. The guide tells how to do it, but not when/why. I'm just over 30k miles and i've never flushed yet.

has anyone needed to do this yet? I dont see any topics on it in the search.

I ask because this summer, i noticed my electric blower fan has remained on for 30-45 seconds after i shut the car off. This used to never happen. It might be because I moved to Atlanta, wheres its crazy hot. While my idiot gauge doesn't indicate a problem, I'd be safe than sorry.

Not sure what the interval is. I've never done it to mine (80k miles) though have thought about doing it soon.

might not be the coolant.. might actually be the fan controller itself.. there's a known recall on them too, bring it to the dealer and see if yours is one of them. I had to pay for the second i went through though.. only 50$ from spins4 (Oem parts manager on evom.net works for a dealership good guy!)

When I had the head off last weekend I had most of the coolant drained and with 55,000 miles it still looked great no gunk, fluid wasn't the least bit murky

Anyone have a link to the warranty notice? I never got one in the mail. I'm running a 2004, if thats any indication.

The fact that my car has only ever lived in South Florida and Georgia still makes me think it might be worth a flush only thing that worries me is the fact that I never did this before and could potentially screw something up.

Your car is too young for it to screw something up. I did do a coolant flush an a 92 Grand Am I used to have with 120,000 miles on it. The flush knocked out whatever sediment was keeping the headgasket sealed, and within 500 miles of the flush the engine was done.

there was no mailed notice... You just gotta ask the dealer.

Your car is probably too young to have a pressurized flush to lodge something loose and give you a massive leak. I would just get a fluid change. They drain your fluid, fill it with cleaner, then rinse it out with more water, and then put in new fluid. It's not quite as good as a pressure flush, but theres no risk of damage and it's usually half as expensive. Plus, if you do a fluid exchange every 30,000 as recommended, you won't have any trouble. (My local garage does a pressure flush for 150 and a fluid exchange for 70).

that happens more often then they care to mention when recommending this service. you are better to keep track of it from day one or just changing fluid with no flush when it gets cloudy. realistically antifreeze has no lifetime and it should be fine until you have major engine work requiring a fluid drain anyway.

Far as I know, coolant doesn't really lose its "cooling" abilities. It does lose its freeze protection and its corrosion inhibiting ability.
I don't really know though. My old car had its original coolant in it, after 20+ years. Unluckily for me, that led to the heater core freezing when it was stupidly cold out.
