timing belt change Q???

I hit 60k miles and now its time. Average time to change a timing belt is 2.5 hrs. the mechanic told me that he thought it was closer to 5. I think he is full of S**t.
Does anyone have a shop manuel or a specific reference on this? It gives me an edge when trying to negotiate a deal.

It took me 4 hours to do it when I did it for my first time. Fastest I could probably do it now would be 3, but it's not something I'd want to rush. The service manual doesn't give time estimates.

But that's not a 4g69... I heard the 2.0 liters were harder to do.

I was thinking about doing it myself, but I think I'll just pay someone the 300 bucks to do it. I'm still at 52k, I should be safe till 60k right? Well hell, even if I wasn't the dealership would be fixing under warranty :P

ALLData says 2.5 hours, if the tensioner pulley, idler pulley, and auto-tensioner are also removed and replaced. 2.1 hours without replacing all those.

I would recommend replacing them at least every other belt change. I personally used to do the pulleys every belt change, and the auto-tensioner every other on my multitude of 4G63s.

Also, make sure you change the balance shaft belt and tensioner every time, unless someone's figured out if it can be eliminated yet.

No, I haven't. I will be doing the next belt change on my car, but I wanted the first one to go on record as having been done, since the warranty on the engine hadn't run out yet.

It used to take me 3 hours or so on a DSM (4G63), so probably about the same for the 4G69 the first time. A little less once I get the hang of it. The 4G69 is a little easier, since there's only one cam sprocket to line up, one accessory drive belt to have to remove/install. The most time-consuming part is getting to the belt to change it. I changed the belt on a friend's 4G63 engine while it was out of the car, only took 1/2 an hour.

I believe that It's a pain to get through all the splash guards and lining up the belt in such a confined space. Balance shaft belt is really easy, though.
