that happened to my old 04 RA (before it was totalled by drunk driver), probably at about 50,000 miles. it was a problem since the day i bought the car though. on the new (used) 04 RA i got, the knob turns very easy even when its cold out. -bandy

Theres's no recall but there's a tsb on it. Lancer 03 to 06. All models. The cable isn't the problem. To fix this problem it takes around 4 hours to do it. (3 or less if you know a lot lancer dash...) You have to remove completly the dash and put off the car the white ventilation box. You need to separate it in two pieces. You have to change the ''rolling door' that change the wind direction. In an other reply, I will write all the part number you need to do it with prices.

No, I never did get the problem fixed yet. It was a pain in the fall because I live in Washington and our weather changes every minute...

If you can get the part numbers that'd be great. Mine is also an 04 and once I went past half way towards the cold side, it wouldnt want to go back.

yeah, the tsb says it's not the issue though. I am gonna try to get the service manager to honor the warranty for this TSB 3500 miles out of warranty.

thanks russellm, I appreciate that information very much! I was hoping to get someone to tell me a quick way to get this ****er back to heat too though, it was 28* (yeah, not like MI but still too ****in' cold without heat) this morning and the 25 minute ride to work about gave my little fingers frostbite not to mention the ice on the ****in' windows because I had no heat to defrost the car

ohhoho! it's not broken, but it won't move when it's that cold. the cable is flexing too much to move it when it's warmed up, it still only went all the way to hot two or three times out of 50

Went to the dealership last week to see how much they would charge to fix this.... They quoted me $682!!! I think I'm going to order the parts from that TSB and try to replace it myself.
