Heater knob broke
Heater knob broke
So today I got tired of my heater knob not turning to heat when it is freezing outside. I guess the internal cable is hung up on something, because it had its last turn today. The knob snapped off, breaking the white plastic piece it is attatched to. Anyone else ever had this problem? I have someone who can fix it without taking it in, but specific parts or part numbers could help. Thanks!

that's what you broke. they go for around $50 on here, or $250 from the dealership.

My knob is a PAIN to turn, I have to go back and forth to get it to shift. Its definitely the cable too, but nothing i can do about that. No more warranty...
I figure if it breaks i'll order a new one and replace it myself and toss some cable lube on it.

I have had the same prob. for awhile now. It is def the cable, and if you look under the dash and turn the knob to warm you'll notice that the cable looks like it lost its strength and bends into a u-shape.
The same thing happened in my 03 ES, got pissed one night because it was freezing ***** out at tried forcing it like no other then *pop* knob falls. That sucked, now I have been using some needlenose pliers.
The knob on my 04 is pretty hard to turn at times, but as near as I can tell it seems to be the heater door assembly and not the cable itself.
I could be wrong of course, and I've read a lot of posts relating to the problem, but mine still turns, and as long as you're firm and not in a huge hurry, it eventually moves from cool to heat, so I'm not too worried about it.
It's just too bad that here in OK I've had to change from heat to cool to heat constantly for the last few months!

when i had my lancer mine actually cracked on a really cold day. When I had everything apart taking my radio out I looked over the design. The cable just kind of slacks and catches... It may help if you can get some of the stuff they put over bicycle brake lines to keep it straight.
