When I go in for my 60K...

...since I have a RRM UDP, do I need to bring in the extra belts?
(i dont recall the size but im sure i could find em searching the forum)

I just dont want them to do the work and be like ... the belts dont fit...
especailly since this is the only car I have at the moment.

well.. you'll have to supply the belts cause they don't know how long it is... What do you plan on getting done? With my 60K I think I'm replacing the belts, one tensioner and that's it. The waterpump could be done at 100K, along with some of the pulley's according to people I've talked to on the forums.

well i need to take a look under the hood at the ignition cables and the distributor cap, but everyhting feels legit (aside the dilemma in the other thread)
and my valve lash was just done this summer.
Ill check the belts today too.

so i guess just the timing belt...

the owners manual says they replace the spark plugs...
(them iridiums get uber pricy...)

when i did the 60k on my old lancer, i did it myself with my uncle's help (he used to teach an auto mechanics class)

we changed serpentine and timing belts, new spark plugs, new brake pads, flushed coolant and brake fluid.

Took 1 1/2 days to do everything, but deff worth saving $500-$600 dollars for someone else to do it!

When I took my car in for the 60k timing belt change, I swapped my stock pulley and belt back on. After they were done with the timing belt change, I put the UDP and that belt back on. My next timing belt change will be done in my driveway (or garage if I have a house by then ), so no more worries about what they may say about mods.

Honestly, timing belt changes are just time consuming and tedious, only thought intensive part is making sure the timing pulleys are top dead center or w/e so you dont F up your engine putting new belt on.

yeah its very difficult especially when you have an aftermarket pulley on.
though i saw the tech at mitsu do a quick cheat.
Take out the spark plug from slot 1, put a flat head screwdriver in there, and when you feel the resistance of the screwdriver being there, take it out and just go slightly more.

I will not try this one alone anymore,
it wasnt easy on the valve lash, definately dont screw up your car,
but if you have a friend who knows some about cars, make sure he is around.

but the only real important work is the timing belt?
what about the spark plugs?

spark plugs will last till 90K if not 100K....
I'm just doing all my belts, timing, accessory and might do the water pump since its already in there.

also, when removing pulley off crankshaft,

my was twisted on with so much torque, me and my uncle together couldnt get it off, so we called my other uncle, who use to work at BMW, and what he said the mechanics there did sometimes for that os, they would put the wrench in the pulley, and then just turn the ignition to have the car turn over, which causes the other end of the wrench to whack into the frame of the car and loosen it enough for us to take it off.

Some what barbaric in the approach, and dangerous if I turned the car over too much, but it worked out very nicely for me and saved me worlds of trouble. =]
